Does anybody know the wheelbase and track, front and rear of this car? Most sources give 60" for the front track which seems too small as according to my calculator that translates to 47.625 mm in 1:32. Taking the VSRN scale drawings, even reduced by just under 10%, the body width comes out at 60mm and the front track doesn't look less than 55mm. I was thinking of scratchbuilding it and would at least like to start with the right dimensions!

Hi
The dimensions of the chaP 2j AS IN MODEL CARS MAGAZINE drawn by the recently much praised roger taylor are as follows Wb95" front track 60 " Rear track 55"
As john so correctly mentioned ,the OA width of the car accross the front wheels will be 60" plus the width of one of the front tyres
That is the reason why on a parrallel sided body like this the rear track is narrower at 55" cos the rear tyres are wider than the fronts. hope that makes sense

Cheers tony

According to my Chaparral book by Richard falconer, rear track is listed at 58 inches, and while we are at it= 163in overall length, 38.25in height, 3.25in ground clearance and 78in overall width. And as the author spent time with the genius that is Jim Hall when writing the book I would tend to trust these figures. I scratchbuilt one in 24th scale using these dimensions and it looked right to me
cheers steve

Thanks all - I had made the basic error of thinking track was the overall width from sidewall to sidewall of the tyres, not the centre of the tread. I did understand why the rear track was narrower, being enclosed. I'll try plugging in the Falconer figures and see how they compare.

Yes I do have the mould, I have not made many bodies as I provided two for a proxy entrant and allowed him to be the only one with bodies at that time. Also one fan slot broke on the mould and needs to be opened up during the build. I have just not had time to pour another mould.
