The task was simple I thought. Just put a Scaley saloon chip in the slot.it Merc using the chip for the light driver. Nearer hell!
1) drilling out the headlights how do you do it. Answer not wth a dremel from the inside. Did a poor job, dont do it that way! Except I know of no better way!
2) Back lights a dream just dilled the original and installed flat faced 5mm LED perfect!
3) Bridged the R1, R2 and R4 with solder. Note- battery soldering iron great for this and soldering the wires, they have a good small tip. Mine was the Aetex version so you can get replaceable tips.
4)Wired front and back l LED's in series to their respective pads not using Resistors. Rears Perfect! Fronts vey light, really good job I did not put a resistor in series. Poobably needs to be in parallel but have a resistor in series. VERY tight intsallation to avoid LED wires hitting fron Tyres. Flat ended LEDS would be better as thet are shorter front to back so would look OK from front but not stick out so much at the back.
4) Chip installation. Near impossible! In the end I removed most of the interior (inc driver) to get it in. May be able to sit the remains of the driver on the "round" can component on the chip as its in about the right place.

With hind sight went in the chipping database but no info on scaley chips in slot.its. Reasonable given that you can't use a slot.it motor.

Not put this in the chipping database as it was a poor job. If anyone is hit with inspiration on how it should have been done tell me PLEASE.

Ps why the scaley chip? Because I am waiting for the next in car pro vesion and the new wireless SSDC controller/software so I can re-programme the scaley chip.

hi
will soon be chipping slot-it cars myself with scaley chips as i to want the cool features that come with the mih firmware and the wireless throttles.

It was only after reading one of your posts that mentioned putting in stock scaley motors in these cars that made me think of running the saloon chip, nice tip.

with the lights is it not possible to buy a slot-it lighting kit,im sure i have seen these mentioned somewhere.

Yes you can but they will still need to be fixed in place and as the original Lights are still glued in this would not help the fixing (poblem 1). Plus if you want to swich off the lights via the SSDC system you need to wire them to the scaley chip anyway so the slot.it electronics are of no use.

I chipped one of these using the slot.it chip and installed the slot.it universal lighting kit. To mount the LED's in the front I carefully removed the head light lenses from the body then drilled a 3mm hole to mount the LED's. Hope this helps.

I used an exacto knife blade to carefully shave the clear plastic and glue from the inside of the headlight housing. Then carefully popped the lens off by pushing on the remaing lens mounting posts from the inside. On my car there did not appear to be any glue holding the edges of the lens to the outside of the body shell. If there is glue then you will have to use an exacto blade to break the seal between the lens and the body shell. If you are careful the lenses come out fairly easily. I have fitted the Slot.it headlight kites (oops Fruedian slip, I also am an avid kite flyer, I actually hold an unofficial world record for most number of box kites flown on a single line, 161 ) into 5 other Slot.it cars. I have two Slot.it Ford GT 40's that I chipped with Scalextric F1 solder in chips that I intend to install headlights, rear taillights (wired to the headlights) and brake lights. The red GT 40 has two round tail lights on one it has an amber light above a red light, from this I assume that the upper amber was the tail light and the lower red was the brake light. The other GT 40 has both red in the upper and lower position and based on the previous theory I am going to again assume upper is a side light and the lower is the brake light. For the headlights I am going to use a pale yellow LED rather than a bright white one, as the GT 40's used incandescent headlights bulbs in their day, correct me if I am wrong here.

I forgot to mention removing the inner lenses, again shave the glue from the inside of the shell and then push out the inner lenses. This car has double headlights so I fitted the LED in the inner position and cut the double lens in two and kept the outer lens. Then drill the 3mm hole and replaced the outer lens insert the LED and then replace the outer glass. When replacing the lenses I use a plastic formulated super glue. You could try fitting double headlights but I found that the outer LED would interfere with the front wheels, I also think there is not enough room for two 3mm LEDs to be mounted side by side. When inserting the LEDs do not clip the LED leads as you will have to position them around the wheel wells. Next to the wheel well you will notice a couple of small raise pins for positioning the wires, bend the LED leads between them so they do not interfere with the front wheels.
For the rear brake lights I drilled a 3mm hole through the blue plastic brake light lens mounting bracket and mounted the LED to them and left the original brake light lenses in place.
If you cannot follow this explanation then let me know and I can attempt to take pictures of the car to show how I did it.

Hope this helps.
