This may be a question for the hardened scratch build veterans (or not). I am very much a novice scratch builder - what do you guys use for chrome detailing? Bumpers, grills, detailing around windows / headlights etc.

I have tried Tamiya chrome - but it doesn't give that realistic chrome look.

I often use Bare Metal Foil which is available in chrome and aluminium finish, it gives a very realistic look.

If you have an airbrush you could try Alclad lacquers which also give a very realistic finish.

If you Google these products you will find loads of "how to" video and retail outlets.

I hope this helps.

The grill and headlamp surrounds on this 2900B were done with Bare Metal Foil:

Although it is fragile, it has lasted well with only a few chips from inadvertent excursions. I have also used Alclad but masking this grill was simply not on.

I have used thin aluminium ducting tape , while not giving a true "chrome" finish it is a cheap 'n 'cheerful way to get near the effect.
