We are excited to announce that we are live on our new forum platform!

It’s been a long time coming. Let’s face it. Sometimes older forum technology lags behind other parts of the internet. Although seeing the same format for a long time is comforting, the member experience shouldn’t include dealing with outdated, unsafe, slow software.

The transition to a new platform will never be 100% smooth but the days of dealing with out of date forum software are over. We have teams dedicated to building a world-class community for you. The development has been steady with regular software releases since May 2019. Asking members for feedback and coming up with ideas for improvement is what we want.

Speed and Reliability Are Key
No one should have to wait for information. This site has been built to be much faster and more reliable, period.

New Homepage Experience
Our algorithm will serve a personal customized feed based on your prior engagement with content on the site. If you’ve liked and or commented, or are following certain topics that are of interest to you, similar content will appear at the top of the homepage.

Search
We have introduced new search algorithms, powered by an industry-leading AI platform, to help you find information faster. We plan to roll out new features to continue improving search, and to power many additional areas of the forum.

Due to the volume of content, our search platform may take some time to complete indexing over the first few days after migrating. During this process, you may see a limited number of posts until indexing has been completed. We appreciate your patience.

Finding Your Way Around
We have made the design clean and simple to use. Near the upper right-hand corner of the community, you will see navigation icons.

The first icon is for what’s new on the site.

Clicking on it, by default, will take you to new unread posts. On that page, you can click on additional tabs as well, such as Popular, if you prefer to view active topics.

Clicking the list icon next to “NEW” will bring you to the full forum listing.

Clicking your avatar will give you a drop-down menu for all things related to your account.

You can also navigate more by clicking the 3 vertical dots.

Dark Mode
We have introduced Dark Mode. One of our favorite features allows you to access the site with a power-saving, and easier on the eyes dark mode. You can access it in the drop-down menu under the 3 vertical dots.

Save Bookmarks
Now you can save your favorite discussion threads and posts! Bookmarks are a handy way to remember and easily find great content or stuff you want to read later.

We also wanted to make it easier for new users to understand the lingo of forums. We have cleaned up various language to more commonly recognized phrases including:
  • Following - Thread subscriptions, and Watched are now known as Following
  • Conversations - Private Messages or PMs are now conversations and can be accessed from the user avatar drop-down in the main navigation
  • Showcase - Showcase is designed for users to "showcase" items/projects through the use of uploaded images, text descriptions and custom content categories. It’s a way to visually and textually provide detailed information on the content you wish to share. The showcase would be similar to a catalog, whereas the gallery would be like a photo album. It can be accessed from the drop-down menu with the 3 dots.
Take a tour and look around! Check out the Help section for some quick FAQs about the new platform.

Please keep all feedback, questions, concerns, requests for help, etc. regarding the new platform right here in this Feedback thread. This will help us make sure not to miss a request for help and also let us pass along your thoughts to our Product team. The Admins and I will be here to help along the way taking note of your comments.

Well done to the guys for getting this up and running smoothly!

Is there and equivalent of [My Content], where I can see ALL the recent posts I have commented on?

cheers
Thanks.

OK, to get exactly the same as [My Content] showed in previous version you need to click on the your icon, select [Following] then select [Participated Discussions] link!

Is it possible to 'bookmark' this link or have it as a shortcut link somewhere on home screen for easy access to this content as we had before?

One general comment, the image that has been chosen for the site banner does not sit well how it currently is, it jars as the track slots in the image clash with site navigation. Personally I would do a quick edit on the image and make the bottom right all dark grey so the navigation buttons can be easily seen. Or use an image that sits better taking in to consideration the functional layout.
The commercialisation has already started, not even subtle, they went straight in with jack boots on and a sledgehammer...

If you want to get rid of the useless right hand waste of space column then you need to subscribe and pay $20 to remove it...really? So every time you visit the site you lose 1/3 of screen real-estate to the 'gimme $20' now nag screen?

Maybe I didn't notice the Pendles discount or any of the other value-add premium membership that existed before? Now it's 'gimme $20 bucks or I'll **** with your experience....'?

If you were in any doubt before...

I too would like to know how to reclaim the blank space on the right side of my screen. In my case 25% of the width of a 1920x1200 monitor is blank.
You can reclaim some of the 3rd column 'lost' pay-wall real-estate if you have a play with your browser zoom setting.

For example, here are three screen shots of me viewing this topic in Chrome at 110%, 100% and 90% scaling.

As you can see 90% gives you MUCH more real-estate to view what we're here for, the post and not the spam in rhs column.

Interestingly 100% default is the narrowest...hmmm....could that just be a coincidence....?

I recommend you have a play with your browser too, it does make a difference!

I just tried scaling in Firefox, 90% makes an ever bigger difference to screen column layout, try it, you are no longer a slave to the '3rd Column Reich'...

Also tried IE (well Edge), same results, the parsing engines in these browsers are pretty consistent, 90% zoom is king!!!(y)
The signature is only allowed to be 4 lines and only top 2 lines show unless you click the expand arrow.

I pasted mine from old site from old post I'd downloaded before migration but had to edit it to be only 4 lines.

Also be careful, if you paste in a YT video your signature will be HUGE and show the video....ask me how I know that...
OK, I've just done this for one of my 108 threads - thanks for the advice, Tamar.

The good news is that it works and it can be done relatively quickly if you cut "ATTACH" and paste "ATTACH type="full"" in Edit mode>Toggle BB code

That said, I agree that it's gonna take a very long time to do all my threads in this way and how many of us punters are actually up to doing this anyway? Not many I think.

The result will be that most of our older posts will have tiny pics so every reader will have to toggle each individual image to see it full sized - and if like me the thread author is constantly making text comments that refer to the images, the reader will be unable to follow this and the thread will be much less valuable.

SO, I strongly suggest that we ask the admin to do it - all a programmer needs to do is to write a simple script that searches through every post to find "

Agreed, they've done a great job with the migration and I've just been using it on my phone and have to say it's pretty good, way more readable than FB for example.

However having the thumbnail showing for images in all old posts does spoil the experience, the forum SW may have a configurable setting for this but it could be a legacy issue with how the posts were translated to the new schemas during migration. Or as you say they could run a SQL script against the relevant table field for all posts before the new site go-live date and just replace the tag to show the image not thumbnail.

I hope they sort this.
This may be a residual caching thing from your browser/device. Try clearing your cache so it knows to only save the password and log ins from the post-updated site.

Let me know if that helps,
Gerrit

I believe Chrome remembers passwords based on the domain, for me when I first clicked login on the new site Chrome remembered my password and logged me straight in to the new site.
Has something changed today with the SlotForum title bar?
It looks the same to me as it was when it went live?

The top banner image scrolls away however the dark navigation pane stays (hovers) there so you can access the navigation from anywhere on page, this is a modern design principle, so if you're towards the end of a long page you don't have to scroll all the way back to top to navigate elsewhere.
It's not what I would've done either, re design principles I'm talking about the hover navigation, not the banner image. I commented to admins above that the chosen image does not sit nice as the track in image jars with the navigation links in most desktop scenarios, Gerrit said he would pass to designers but I wouldn't hold out for a change...
Here is an annoyance that could be sorted easily, as well as the chance to 'edit' your post in the allowed time before you can no longer edit it, why not also give user the ability to 'delete' the post too? Given I can edit my post to be basically nothing I cannot see any problems with allowing user to delete a post for the same period of time that they can edit it for?
But what about all the other images from members that may not have to possibility to change their website, or even don't have acces to a 3rd party website that hosted their images? Are those gone for ever...as in SF won't display them...in the post?
Essentially yes, the images are 'lost' unless admins agree to degrade from HTTPS to HTTP for these types of links, which I can't see them doing.

The proper fix is for the web hosting companies in question to fully implement HTTPS...if they haven't as of yet I"d also be a little worried what else they aren't doing security wise...
@vs-Admin: - I posted this above, can it go in the dev's backlog please for consideration? I cannot think of any reason why this would be a 'bad' thing to do (unless they like to frig the numbers of actual posts created to boost the stats...), and cannot see any users thinking it's not a good idea too? Can you confirm your POV?

Only moderators and admins are able to delete a post, as needed, for situations such as duplicate posts. Simply report the post for staff assistance. If a thread is deleted, it then deletes all the responses and thus other people’s posts too. Or, when deleting a post, people may respond. Then, if you delete one post, the following posts will not make sense - because one is missing it, it destroys the understanding and flow.
OK, I get the points you make above but that's not the functionality I was asking for, probably I wasn't as clear above as I could've been. I am talking about a user deleting a NEW TOPIC that they've just created by mistake - NOT deleting topics/threads on current live threads. Thanks for responding anyway.

In my [Account Settings] page I have my location set, in [Privacy Settings] it's set to show.

So why doesn't my location show in my posts like it did on old forum? Is there master config 'on/off' to show this field?

I think is is very useful feature when giving advice to have an idea where the person is located.

Old forum:
275962

New Forum - No location is shown:
275961

Privacy options seto to show location:
275960
See less See more
If you hover over your avatar you can view more information, including the location.
Not obvious but useful to know, hope this is in the FAQs.

Thanks
I just edited a scale mistake in one of my posts from months ago, that is welcome, if you don't go nuts you can edit posts you made years ago....which you couldn't before.
