The Hobby Traders forum is still a shambles 2 weeks after the problem was reported.
Andi Rowland is the only one who has managed to get a thread up and running again after the move. Surely this is one of the problems that should take priority as it was a valuable resource both for the traders and forum members.
One member of the Hobby Traders section has already posted that he has had no help in reinstating his thread so he is leaving the forum and no doubt others will follow unless the problem is sorted quickly.

The character limit on personal messages is an absolute joke. I wanted to give a prospective new member information about our club but the character limit made it impossible to pass on any meaningful information.

I appreciate that there was a need to move to a new platform but I was worried from the outset that it would cause huge problems. I was a member of what was one of the best historic aviation forums on the web but it changed platform and a majority of the members became so disenchanted by the resulting loss of functionality (which took months to resolve) and other problems that they left and have never returned. In it's heyday that forum had 15 to 20 new threads a day and now gets one or two new threads a week. How the mighty have fallen!

I have noticed that the amount of new threads here seems to have decreased significantly since the launch of the new software which should be causing alarm bells to ring with admin.

I don't like the way the new opening page presents me with recommended for you threads and I find that when I switch to the new posts page it doesn't appear to show everything that is new so both pages are , to me, utterly useless and must, at best, be confusing for any new visitors.
The forum always had it's problems but overall it was a great place to visit and for me the upgrade has made the forum more complicated to view and much less "friendly" than it used to be. I am disappointed but after experiencing the problems with changes on the aviation forum I mentioned above I am not surprised.

Please get the problems sorted and let us enjoy the forum again.

Autoavia, on the new posts page go in to filters and make sure all boxes are unticked. From what I can see the fillers work from top down and are additive . So I think that if you tick unread content this is what you will see but if you also tick the followed content box you will only see unread content that you follow. I have all boxes unticked and it works for me like the old latest posting page.

Thanks Beardy56 - not used to having filters applied when I haven't asked for them and wasn't even aware that there were filters for that page. Just goes to show it can be difficult to teach an old dog new tricks!

What the devil is a 'Push Notification', and why would I want one?

I keep getting a window pop up at the top of a page asking me if I want one or not.
Push Notifications

The community offers push notifications if your browser's permissions allow it. You may see a popup in the community allowing you to enable these permissions for the site.

You can also enable/disable push notifications by clicking on your avatar near the upper right-hand corner of the site and selecting “Account Settings” from the drop-down menu.

You will now see left side navigation. Select “Preferences”.

Scroll down to Push Notifications to set your preferences.

Enabling push notifications will enable them for this device only. If you log out of this device, you will need to re-enable push notifications.

Still don't get what a 'push notification' is but had them all turned off anyway. Gotta love the fact that I can click on the heading of a thread and go straight to where I last finished with it. I've asked questions on the old forum and never had them answered because readers have gone straight to the last post instead of the 1st unread post.

Who is the "community" that allows push notifications, what are push notifications, and how can I join the community that allows push notifications so that I can push the notifications where the sun doesn't shine?

Push notifications are clickable pop-up messages that appear on your users' browsers irrespective of the device they're using or the browser they're on. They serve as a quick communication channel enabling companies to convey messages, offers, or other information to their customers.
Just means you get an instant popup message when of followed topic has a new response. Just a quicker version of the emails we used to get.

Hmmm, a very comprehensive reply that didn't answer my question at all..................

But some of the following posts went some way to explain what these 'push notifications' are, thanks very much.

But think I'll pass on them, I only have one 'device', my laptop. My phone makes phone calls and occasionally the odd text....

I've got them turned of as I use the new button all the time, I will read a post and then click new to refresh the latest posts page and select the next item to read then click new again so just don't need them.
I think if you set them up right and don't always visit the forum that much then they could be useful.

If the Hobby Traders Forums are lost, can we at least start them back up again? I don't WANT to re-do everything, but I'd rather get to work on that sooner than later.
Why after this amount of time the Hobby Traders Forums are still not up , in my opinion this was and i repeat was one of the best parts of Slotforum latterly, well before it all got F'd up that is , who ever did this must be able to do something about it.
And i have noticed the rapid decline in use on Slotforum since the upgrade , is it use it or loose it if so were going to loose it 😠

all of the address and contact details, website urls and other relevant information is missing from every club's entry in the Clubs forum.
This needs to be rectified sooner rather than later, as this was a very valuable resource and one of the few ways members and browsers of SlotForum could find places to race.
Any progress with this, Cricket? There's still no information visible about any of the clubs listed in the Clubs forum, and no space for the Club rep to add the missing information himself.
I am looking into this.
Is anything happening with this? The original request was made 18 days ago and nothing has happened yet. A lot of very valuable information has been lost and needs to be recovered.

The Hobby traders section was amputated before the switch over. Almost zero comment by the mods/admins about that.

Do I assume we are no longer wanted here?
Do I assume there is a mod/admin mute setting for this problem?
Do members want traders showing their wares on SFI?
Do the mods/admin not want traders showing their wares here?

I find the lack of clarity, transparency and general silence from those in control appalling.

I am beginning to wonder if any of us are wanted here.
VS probably don't care. They're salesmen selling advertising space. For them, it's all about numbers, not content. So long as their forums have plenty of posts and plenty of members, they can continue to sell their platform to advertisers. A churn in membership is irrelevant. If you or I stop posting, we'll still be counted as a member.

I doubt very much that an advertiser would actually study in detail the conversations on this forum, so is unlikely to be aware of the depth of disappointment and frustration felt by many of us at the shambolic way that the switch to VS's forum software has been implemented, and the apparent inability of Cricket or anyone else at VS to rectify most of the problems.

Just look at the way that the new-look SlotForum is littered everywhere with bold references to the volume of posts and members. Content is irrelevant, numbers matter. Ironically, our complaints here add positively to those numbers.

"Look at these numbers! Aren't they big?! Advertise with us!"
