Any suggestions on what can cheaply, and easily, be purchased to clean the eletrical contacts of motors? i have heard that WD40 can be used, but would like further advice on this.
Didn't try contact cleaner, eh? I use a precision parts cleaning spray but I think that's only available commercially. As Kai stated, re-oil the bearing surfaces after cleaning.
You can get WD-40 in gallon jugs too, err, non aerosol form
The problem with it is that it makes a mess. It evaporates but it still makes a mess. It can also soften brushes so the motor might run faster for a bit if the brushes weren't seated in to begin with. However, the now soft brushes wear out fairly quickly.
