Hi Joel, I think your comments touch on the point raised earlier by MrFlippant.

So looking further into criticism and review I found this which seeks to represent the UK legal position:
As someone who appears to have built an entire persona out of criticising everything digital that existed before your appearence on the forum; you seem rather touchy when the boot is on the other foot, it is mildly amusing.
It is unlikely that breach of copyrights can be invoked in this particular case.

Dopramine, please hold to the subject under discussion… you are drifting off topic… for the avoidance of doubt the subject is copyright and potential copyright infringement. Thank you.

I thought Dopramine's contributions were very enlightening, I have certainly learnt things from his contributions in this thread, allow thread drift.

And we are down the rabbit hole again,

Dr C aka Clive, where do we go with this?

Ade, I would ask the same question of you.

Mr Flippant aka Greg, I would expect better of you,

This CRAP is bouncing all over the world and between numerous threads here and elsewhere, have a long hard look guys.

I don't know what the issue is here(except an ongoing feud between Dr C and Injectorman), but seriously it is becoming a turn off for me, I came here to learn, all I'm seeing is some squabbling juveniles(we are not in the playground now people) who aren't contributing jack, except to see who can be the biggest sycophant.

And the one question I would ask is, if this is all about copyright and theft of intellectual property how is the person who is banned responsible, when he shouldn't have access to this forum.

Grow up guys and go back to doing what you do best, informing and helping those of us who would like to learn from all your experiences.

I came here for discussion and opinions of copyright and how it might affect the way we interact on this forum and elsewhere. I stand by all the questions I have raised.

In my view this is a thread for folk who have an interest in copyright law, or want to learn more. This is a very relevant topic for mature discussion on a social media platform where ideas and various forms of IP, included copyrighted work, are made publicly accessible.

I regret that some folk have made it all a bit personal in places - I have tried to be respectful and objective in all of my inputs.

Unless anyone has a burning desire to add a further and meaningful contribution let’s look towards the moderators to lock the thread today at 11.59pm GMT.

Thanks to all of those who have responded constructively to my opening post and recent renewal of the discussion - very helpful folks - thank you!

I think Clive has shown restraint and I think he has a valid question about copyright. He’s called for the thread to stay on topic and I think that is perfectly reasonable, especially since there have been taunts and sledging going on here, which is not ok by any standards.

If there's a question about copyright why not ask that question on the forum where it took place.? Their are several threads on here that are snide replys to questions asked elsewhere, Slot Forum is not a dumping ground for other Forums news and that's what it's being used as.. Fact..

[Redacted], help me see what you see in Dopamine‘a post that are enlightening, please.

edit... I did re read some earlier posts that were sensible
Well he made two good points
1) He had first hand experience in the online porn business and related to how piracy had cost him and his wife a lot of money, and there was nothing that could be done about it.
2) He made some good points that unless borrowing images was costing the original poster then what was the loss? After all 99.5% of us are doing this to share knowledge.

I think we are actually caught in the cross fire of deeper personality clash on this thread, I might be wrong of course.

As I feel the burden of responsibility for this thread as I was the original poster - again many thanks to all for your well-intentioned contributions. I have learned a lot as I hope have others have too.

The moral of the story is raise the question on the forum you read it, unless of course you've been banned and this your only outlet to air your Laundry..

Raises another question if you've been banned why bother to go back and read it...?

Hi Ade, I don't think the website in question hosts the images - its my understanding they only support hyperlinks shared by the member with the member themselves taking all responsibility for copyright compliance - so quite a different setup from slotforum where the site hosts the digital images and attachments of the members. I may be wrong.

Having left a little water to flow under the bridge on this one…

Hi Joel you are welcome to your opinions of course… but for the avoidance of doubt I just wanted to set the record straight on a few tiny points of detail.

1/ I am a huge enthusiast for all aspects of digital slotcars and the companies that have brought these technologies to market.

2/ My favourite digital brands are Scalextric, Carrera, Slot.it and SCX.

3/ For each of these four brands I have tried to help improve the performance envelope of their respective digital products - by offering adaptations and modifications. In a number of cases the brands have introduced these modifications - or at the very least they have carried out a parallel line of activity and reached the same conclusion.

4/ I can point to positive contributions which I believe help with enthusiast uptake of each of these four Company’s digital products.

On this basis I amicably refute your above assertion.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I understand that on Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and Instagram, if you post a picture it becomes the property of the hosting site. This is the main reason I never post pictures there. I think it is safe to say only share pictures you don't want strangers to see (e.g. young children) directly to specific recipients via email attachments. A friend of ours found a picture of her children in Canada taken from FB and it appeared as part of a clothing marketing campaign in Europe with no request for permission.

I hope this was on topic.
Cheers!

Thanks dvd, my conclusion is that the originator, or their employer, retain ownership of their intellectual property (in this case a copyright) but, typically in including within a post, the poster is granting permission for the hosting site to use their intellectual property within clearly defined limits. This of course assumes the poster owns the intellectual property which may not always be the case! The better hosting sites (VerticalScope included) also offer an escalation procedure in case any owner of intellectual property believes an infringement is taking place. In which case the hosting site would consider removal of the material as necessary.

Please feel free, forum members and admin, to correct me if the above is incorrect or imprecise.
