Hi guys,

I am about to order a load of black borders for my track and I was under the impression that the black insert at the edge was flat in the black borders. As we don't have black sold here in Nz, (just the tan ones here) I can't go to a shop and look at them. The red and white curbs on the tan borders are raised and I got some black ones from Jadlamracingmodels the other day with another order but the black curb inserts on them were also raised. They were the same profile as my red and white inserts.

I really wanted them to be flat so they don't unsettle the car when sliding. Are the US versions different than the UK ones?

Hi,
Some of mine are UK mail order, some bought in a DK outlet. They all came with standard r/w kerbs. You'd better get e-mail confirmation before ordering, I think. Or make your own, to make them level with the track surface.

Current stuff, Black or Tan, has the slightly raised Red/White "Rumble strips" , a style that was introduced in '99.

Unless you can get "New Old Stock", which is unlikely given how long ago it was deleted, if you want flat stuff you'll need to look on that popular auction site, or like Mr Olufsen says , make your own.

Have you had problems with these "tipping" cars up or do you just want an "ALL-BLACK" Finish!

Thanks guys. I have ordered a whole bunch of borders online and the website says they are flat so fingers crossed. I have also emailed them to ask. The popular auction site isn't much use for us here in NZ by the way. Most US sellers don't want to ship outside the states and when they do the freight price is usually too high. It's much easier to deal with US stores than eBay unfortunately.

It's strange how different countries get different stuff like that. There are plenty of black borders with flat curbs here in the states that are clearly not "new old stock" as it was years ago that they went out of stock, and now they're everywhere.
I know the drift car sets come with black borders that have the raised red/white curbs, though.

All of my black borders have been bought new from a local store in the last couple of years, and they all have flat/flush black "kerb" inserts allowing for smoother sliding. This is in Denver, Colorado, USA.

I had an email back from ED where I ordered the borders. They say that some are flat and some aren't. It seems all their new stock is raised so I will have to sand them flat when they arrive. Hopefully there is enough plastic to do that on the top side only otherwise I'll have to sand the top and bottom. I have to have it the way I want it though, I am not one to settle for 'close enough'. When I do I'll make sure to post some pics for other members to see.

Do the raised borders have a big influence on the driving? I have to decide if I buy the raised version or make some borders myself. My cars will be magless, so I need them for sliding the curves.

Track height is abot 9 mm I think? Any suggestions on material?
