El día 2 de enero empezó el Dakar del 2021 y acabará el día 15. Creo que es oportuno poner algunos coches transformados que corrieron en esa prueba.

Los candidatos son:

Dakar 1984 > Metge / LeMoyne - Porsche 911 (953B)

Dakar 1986 > Metge / LeMoyne - Porsche 959

Dakar 1994 > Servia / Puig - Lancia Delta

Dakar 2005 > Polato / Mayer - Mitsubishi LS200

Todos los coches son transformaciones a partir de otros coches comerciales que han aparecido en algún coleccionable por fascículos.

No son piezas únicas, pues estos coches los realicé junto con otros compañeros, todos a la vez y siguiendo en principio las instrucciones de los amigos Toni (artecnodecals) y Juan Carlos (lagartijakits). Evidentemente, a lo largo de estas modificaciones todos íbamos aportando nuevas ideas, en cuanto a materiales, trucos, alternativas, etc.

PORSCHE 953 B (911) > DAKAR 1984

En 1984 en el sexto París-Dakar, apareció en la inscripción de participantes al Dakar uno de los coches más hermosos de la historia de esta mítica prueba: el Porsche 953B, que era en realidad era un 911 con importantes modificaciones como ser 4×4 y dar 225 CV. Estaba patrocinado por Rothmans.

Los franceses René Metge y su copiloto Dominique Lemoyne pilotaban este coche y se hacían con la segunda de sus tres victorias en la prueba.

Jacky Ickx, piloto el otro vehículo, quedó sexto.

Sin dudas, fue un debut perfecto para el equipo alemán, que en su primer año en el Rally Dakar como escuadra oficial supo conquistar el primer lugar de la carrera. Pero no sería la última.

Modificando un 911.

No tengo imágenes del procedimiento que he seguido, pero a grandes rasgos…

-Partimos de un 911 de un coleccionable, ya desmontado y despintado.

-Acortar el parachoques anterior y eliminar la entrada de aire.

-También modificamos el faldón posterior y añadimos las luces de matrícula y el cáncamo de arrastre.

-Modificar las aletas y retocar los pasos de ruedas.

-Tapar la luneta posterior.

-Poner la toma de combustible en el cristal lateral.

-Quitar el alerón posterior y hacer otro con la forma y los perfiles nuevos y añadiendo una rejilla.

-Quitar los faros suplementarios.

-Quitar los retrovisores y hacerlos nuevos.

In 1984, at the sixth Paris-Dakar, one of the most beautiful cars in the history of this mythical event appeared in the Dakar registration of participants: the Porsche 953B, which was actually a 911 with important modifications such as 4 × 4 and give 225 hp. It was sponsored by Rothmans.

The French René Metge and his co-driver Dominique Lemoyne drove this car and took the second of their three victories in the test.

Modifying a 911.

I have no images of the procedure I have followed, but broadly speaking ...

-We start from a 911 of a collectible, already disassembled and unpainted.

-Short the front bumper and eliminate the air intake.

-We also modified the rear apron and added the license plate lights and the towing eye.

-Modify the fins and retouch the wheel arches.

-Cover the rear window.

-Put the fuel inlet on the side window.

-Remove the rear spoiler and make another with the new shape and profiles and adding a grille.

-Remove the supplementary headlights.

-Remove the mirrors and make them new.

La bandeja tiene algunos cambios.

-He quitado el único piloto que traía el coche y he puesto dos nuevos pintados con los colores del equipo Rothmans.

-Añadir los cinturones de seguridad que son tiras delgadas de stire-strip con cierres de trozos de tela mosquitera.

-He añadido la rueda de recambio con sus arneses. Esta clonada en epoxy y cortada para que no tenga demasiada altura.

-He puesto una "jaula" de protección, hecha con hilo de cobre.

-Además, algunos detalles en el salpicadero.

The tray has some changes.

-I have removed the only driver who had the car and I have put two new ones painted with the Rothmans team colors.

-Add the seat belts that are thin strips of stire-strip with closures of pieces of mosquito netting.

-I added the spare wheel with its harnesses. It is cloned in epoxy and cut so it is not too tall.

-I have put a "cage" for protection, made with copper wire.

-Also, some details on the dashboard.

Se han de hacer algunos elementos para el techo.

-Luces de freno elevadas que son restos de ópticas de un coche real. Inserté hilo de cobre de un milímetro para unirlas a la carrocería y unos tensores de hilo de cobre muy fino.

-Receptor de la radiobaliza (cúpulas del satélite) que son partes de un mechero.

-La antena es un trocito de sedal de pesca al que he enrollado en su base hilo de cobre muy fino.

Se han de hacer modificaciones al chasis para adaptarlo a todo lo que hemos quitado de la carrocería.

-Quitar las salidas de los tubos de escape y hacer unos nuevos.

-El protector del carter, es un trozo de aluminio de un disco de 1,44.

-Detrás de las ruedas, añadir guardabarros.

-Cambiar los neumáticos por unos offroad de Ninco.

Y este es el resultado

Some elements have to be made for the roof.

-Raised brake lights that are leftover optics from a real car. I inserted one millimeter copper wire to join them to the bodywork and some very fine copper wire tensioners.

-Radio beacon receiver (satellite domes) that are parts of a lighter.

-The antenna is a piece of fishing line to which I have wound very fine copper wire around its base.

Modifications have to be made to the chassis to adapt it to everything we have removed from the body.

-Remove the outlets of the exhaust pipes and make new ones.

-The crankcase protector is a piece of aluminum with a 1.44 disc.

-Behind the wheels, add fenders.

-Change the tires for some Ninco offroad.

Sí, este coche salió de uno de "Altaya". De hecho, casi todos los coches que utilizo para transformar, son de Altaya. Ignoro si estas colecciones se hicieron en otros países.

-He de decir que las calcas tienen tenían un fallo en la matrícula. Este coche llevaba el número 846, pero en su día las calcas venían con el número 802.

PORSCHE 959 > DAKAR 1986

-En la edición de Paris-Dakar de 1986, Porsche presentó este 959 modificado para carreras de todo terreno, diferente al que había sido producido para competir en el grupo B del Campeonato Mundial de Rally.

-El Porsche 959 fue un modelo mítico para el fabricante de Stuttgart, heredando en parte el inconfundible diseño del 911, pero con algunas novedades revolucionarías para estar hablando del año 1986.

-Se homologaron seis unidades para competir, todas con el motor seis cilindros bóxer de 400 CV de potencia del Porsche 956.

-En el Dakar de 1986, Porsche consiguió colocar el coche de René Metge y Dominique Lemoyne en la primera plaza, y el de Jacky Ickx y Claude Brasseur en la segunda.

In the 1986 Paris-Dakar edition, Porsche presented this modified 959 for off-road racing, different from the one that had been produced to compete in group B of the World Rally Championship.

The Porsche 959 was a mythical model for the Stuttgart manufacturer, partly inheriting the unmistakable design of the 911, but with some revolutionary novelties to be talking about the year 1986.

Six units were homologated to compete, all with the six-cylinder boxer engine of 400 hp of the Porsche 956.

In the 1986 Dakar, Porsche managed to place the car of René Metge and Dominique Lemoyne in first place, and that of Jacky Ickx and Claude Brasseur in second.

This edition of the Dakar will be remembered for the fatal helicopter accident suffered by Thierry Sabine.

Modificaciones en un 959 comercial

De esta modificación tampoco tengo imágenes de los diferentes pasos que he seguido, pero son relativamente fáciles de entender.

Respecto a la carrocería:

-Hacer dos cortes en el frontal y abrir para aumentar la distancia entre faros.

-Anular las tomas de aire delanteras, tanto las frontales como las que están a los lados por delante de las ruedas.

-Añadir sobre el capó motor esa especie de chepa.

-Quitar el retrovisor y poner dos nuevos hechos con dos piezas de plástico.

-Quitar el montante pequeño que divide la ventanilla delantera.

-Cortar los laterales de la carrocería justo por debajo del número 180 que hay en las puertas. Le he puesto un añadido de plástico con lo que ahora la carrocería es más alta.

-Modificar los pasos de rueda.

-Tapar la entrada de aire lateral que hay tras las puertas. Hacer unas nuevas más altas, y justo donde arranca el alerón.

-Cortar dos tiras de las entradas de aire que hay detrás de las ruedas posteriores.

-En la siguiente imagen, junto al coche donante, se aprecian algunos de estos pasos.

Modifications in a commercial 959

Of this modification I also do not have images of the different steps that I have followed, but they are relatively easy to understand.

Regarding the bodywork:

-Make two cuts in the front and open to increase the distance between headlights.

-Cancel the front air intakes, both the front ones and the ones on the sides in front of the wheels.

-Add that kind of hump on the hood.

-Remove the mirror and put two new ones made with two plastic pieces.

-Remove the small upright that divides the front window.

-Cut the sides of the body just below the number 180 on the doors. I have added a plastic addition so that now the body is taller.

-Modify the wheel arches.

-Cover the side air inlet behind the doors. Make new ones higher, and right where the spoiler starts.

-Cut two strips of the air inlets behind the rear wheels.

-In the following image, next to the donor car, you can see some of these steps.

-He quitado el piloto y he puesto unos comprados.

-El volante es la parte del tapón de una botella de agua (AQUÍ).

-He rellenado la bandeja con unas cuantas cosas como la rueda de recambio, arneses, cinturones, batería, la jaula, etc.

On the chassis:

-I cut the chassis into three pieces, leaving both axles and the engine cradle in the center. I re-glued the front and rear pieces to the central piece, but forming a step to raise them a few millimeters and adapt them to the new height of the body.

Tuve un desacuerdo al colocar las calcas y ganaron ellas. Hice lo que pude con microsol y salvo en alguna zona, más o menos las salvé. Creo que eran de artecnodecals o de Pattos.

La peor parte es la raya roja, donde empieza el alerón posterior en el lado izquierdo, que de tanto intentar arreglarlo, iba perdiendo el color la raya dorada.

I had a disagreement when placing the decals and they won. I did what I could with microsol and except in some areas, I more or less saved them. I think they were from artecnodecals or from Pattos.

The worst part is the red stripe, where the rear spoiler begins on the left side, which after trying to fix it, the golden stripe was losing color.

-En los laterales de los cristales, hice un agujero para alojar el tapón de la gasolina.

-Las dos ópticas del techo las hice dando forma a un trozo de plástico y poniendo las cuatro luces rojas que son restos de ópticas auténticas.

-Los receptores del satélite en el techo, son piezas de las válvulas de un mechero.

-Y este Porsche 959 con todos los accesorios montados, pintado y decorado, quedó así.

Accessories.

-The above optics are new (not the headlights), from the remains of real optics.

-For the later ones I have made the composition with three pieces: orange, white and red and I have given them that curved shape of the body.

-Side skirts (fenders) on the underside of the car.

-The rear radiator that is under the spoiler, are two pieces of flange to which I have glued some very fine wires taken from the loaf closures. Then I have closed it by putting two pieces of plastic at the ends.

-In the sides of the windows, I made a hole to house the gas cap.

-I made the two optics on the ceiling by shaping a piece of plastic and putting the four red lights that are remnants of authentic optics.

-The satellite receivers on the roof are parts of the valves of a cigarette lighter.

-And this Porsche 959 with all the accessories mounted, painted and decorated, was like this.

I like your 959 model, as usual.

It is interesting to see that the original was a collectible. The livery is actually the Le Mans competitor Porsche 961 from 1986, although you correctly identify that it is actually a Porsche 959, complete with rally co-driver.

LANCIA DELTA > DAKAR 1994

Este Lancia Delta preparado por Jolly Club, lo pilotaron Salvador Servià y Jaime Puig en la edición del Paris-Dakar de 1994. Abandonaron por una rotura del carter que inutilizó el motor del coche.

-Dadas las pocas imágenes que había de este coche, me desplacé a un museo de automóviles donde estaba el coche que se utilizó en las pruebas raid que se suelen realizar previas al Dakar. Concretamente fui a la Col·lecció d'Automòbils Salvador Claret, en Sils (Girona).

-Para la transformación partí de un Lancia Delta HF Integrale que apareció en una colección por fascículos. Llevaba la decoración de "Caja Cantabria".

En mi opinión es una transformación más fácil de lo que parece, siendo la gran dificultad, hacer todo el conjunto del alerón posterior. El resto es lo de siempre: cortar, pegar, añadir masilla y lijar.

Modificando el Delta

Con el coche desmontado y despintado...

-Cegar los cristales laterales posteriores y la luneta de atrás. Igualar con masilla y lija a la carrocería.

-Cegar las manetas de las puertas traseras con masilla.

-Eliminar el alerón posterior del coche original y hacer el nuevo.

-Hacer el espacio para la rueda de recambio que esta debajo del alerón y un suporte para las luces de freno superiores.

-Modificar las aletas laterales y los pasos de rueda.

-Recortar la rejilla que hay sobre el capó motor y guardarla. Poner un plástico para tapar este hueco y realizar la joroba para el radiador.

This Lancia Delta, prepared by Jolly Club, was driven by Salvador Servià and Jaime Puig in the 1994 edition of the Paris-Dakar. They abandoned it due to a damaged crankcase that disabled the car's engine.

Given the few images of this car, I went to a car museum where the car that was used in the raid tests that are usually carried out before the Dakar was located. Specifically, I went to the Col·lecció d'Automòbils Salvador Claret, in Sils (Girona).

For the transformation I started with a Lancia Delta HF Integrale that appeared in a collection by fascicles. It wore the decoration of "Caja Cantabria".

Modifying the Delta

With the car disassembled and unpainted ...

-Blind the rear side windows and the rear window. Match with putty and sand the bodywork.

-Glue the handles of the rear doors with putty.

-Remove the rear spoiler of the original car and make the new one.

-Make space for the spare wheel that is under the spoiler and a support for the upper brake lights.

-Modify the side wings and the wheel arches.

-Cut out the grille on the engine hood and put it away. Put a plastic to cover this hole and make the hump for the radiator.

El alerón posterior me dio más trabajo del esperado, pero valió la pena. Esta incrustado en el mismo alojamiento que llevaba el alerón del delta original.

-Preparé un trozo de plástico cuadrado y curvado con calor. Añadí los tirantes de refuerzo en su parte superior. Más adelante quité la parte central quedando solo el alerón y los soportes.

-Debajo del alerón hay un trozo de plástico donde colocaré las luces de freno.

-Luego puse media caja circular de unos caramelos, que representaría el encaje para la rueda de recambio.

The rear wing gave me more work than expected, but it was worth it. It is embedded in the same housing as the original delta spoiler.

-I prepared a square and heat-curved piece of plastic. I added the reinforcement straps on its top. Later I removed the central part leaving only the spoiler and the supports.

-Under the spoiler there is a piece of plastic where I will place the brake lights.

-Then I put half a circular box of candies, which would represent the fitting for the spare wheel.

Con el recorte de la rejilla del radiador que hemos quitado del capó motor, realizamos una estructura con forma más o menos piramidal.

-Encolamos ese recorte ligeramente inclinado y tapamos los dos laterales con dos plásticos triangulares y otro rectangular para la parte de delante. Queda como veis en la siguiente imagen.

With the cut-out of the radiator grille that we have removed from the engine hood, we create a structure with a more or less pyramidal shape.

We glue this slightly inclined cutout and cover the two sides with two triangular plastics and another rectangular one for the front. It is as you see in the following image.

La bandeja del coche original venía bastante completa, por lo que hay pocos cambios a realizar.

-Añadir arneses a la rueda de recambio.

-Cinturones de seguridad.

-Añadir y pintar algunos detalles.

The original car tray came quite complete, so there are few changes to make.

-Add harnesses to the spare wheel.

-Seatbelts.

-Add and paint some details.

Seguimos con el Lancia Delta

Una vez toda la carrocería esta acabada, se ha de lijar hasta conseguir una superficie lisa y sin resaltes, sobre todo a nivel de las lunetas laterales y la trasera que hemos anulado.

Ya se puede enmascarar y pintar.

-En las siguientes imágenes, el esquema de pintura y el coche con las calcas de artecnodecals puestas.

-Podéis observar que detrás del Delta están el 911 y el 959. Los pinté los tres a la vez aprovechando la misma pintura azul (Tamiya XF-8). Luego les puse las calcas.

Once the entire bodywork is finished, it has to be sanded to a smooth surface without bumps, especially at the level of the side and rear windows that we have canceled.

You can see that behind the Delta are the 911 and the 959. I painted them all at the same time using the same blue paint (Tamiya XF-8). Then I put the decals on them.

-Los faldones tras las ruedas (guardabarros) son de plástico muy fino.

-El tapón de gasolina.

-La rejilla frontal. Esta conformada con hilo de cobre y tela mosquitera.

-El protector del carter es de plasticard.

-Un trozo de plástico transparente para simular la ventanilla añadida.

Y una vez todo montado, el coche quedó así.

-The optics under the rear spoiler that are remnants of real optics.

-The satellite receivers. They are from a junkyard of a lighter valve.

-The skirts behind the wheels (fenders) are made of very thin plastic.

-The gas cap.

-The front grille. It is made of copper wire and mosquito netting.

-A piece of transparent plastic to simulate the added window.

And once everything was assembled, the car was like this.

Y como siempre ha de haber algún error, este delta no podía ser menos: las calcas del techo están al revés.
