Decal "Waterslide" paper on ebay...

Hiya peeps! spent nearly an hour looking at some of all of your different re-liveries and it has me wanting ago!

Is this product on fleabay any good? Or is there a product that is prefered?

Any info is welcomed and Im UK based if that changes poss websites etc!!!

Not sure what product you are talking about? No specific link or brand name mentioned in your post.

I like beldecal.com paper. If you buy it in bulk you'll be set for life, at an inexpensive price. I found buying individual sheets of paper at my local hobby shop to be unbelievably expensive. Sorry to hobby shop owner, but my budget is pretty thin.

Try the clear and White waterside paper at craftycomputerpaper.co.uk, I've found it to be pretty good for home printing reasonably priced

Remember to buy some clear lacquer though if printing on inkjet printer. You need to seal the print before putting it in the water....or sit and watch the ink wash away!!!

I use the laserprinter colour and clear from crafty as well (I use the ink jet but found the laser much easier ( no post printing coating required) and the graphics are much clearer.

Goes through my little Samsung 310 very well (very good colour laser for its money)

(you can see the final decal on my reliveries)

Thanks Wraith, nice re-liveries! Cant see me forking out for a laser printer just for this when i have a quite expensive ink jet already! but maybe I'll see how they go?

Our HP 1200 Inkjet produces fine results, especially in 'Photo quality' setting - no need to buy a laser!

I've used several brands over time including the Bel decals, which I liked. The best in my experience has been Papilio, for service and quality and especially their lacquer for setting the ink. Good technical support as well.

Hi,
@ Collin (wraith): thanks for the tip on the laser printer, I just bought one today. Didn't do any test jet. Do you use the "Laser Water-Slide Decal Paper" from crafty for you print on the laser printer?

I did some test with my HP ink-jet printer (with original cartridges) on decal paper I've bought at the local model shop. The result was so poor, I even did all the print settings that where available and indeed with the photo paper setting I got the best result, but the image was still to poor. If you looked closely you would see that the ink would not stick to the surface and started to bubble up in very tiny ink drops, and all detail was lost. Perhaps it was due to the quality of the paper, because the surface was very smooth. So I tried sanding it a little to give the ink a rougher surface to stick on. It improved in quality, but was still to poor for my tasted.

Has anyone had any experiance with the decal paper from that the e-bay seller mentioned in this topic?

Be careful about what sort of clear lacquer you use. I tried some from the car paint rack at Halfords but it causes the ink to craze.

I know this sounds obvious but you must buy the dedicated decal spray lacquer.

If you are printing from an inkjet then you must use inkjet decal paper.
I coat my decals with Testors decal bonder and the once on the car coat with auto clear,not problems IF the top coat is applied dry and slowly build up the coats.
