MRE make great Decals, DMC Decals from Pendle or Get Slotted or Professor Motor in the USA and Pattos decals from Pattos Place in Australia. All have websites.

All good sources.

DMC Decals tend to be denser than Pattos but do not shape to difficult car contours as well as Pattos thinner more delicate decals. You will need lots of Micro Sol, (softening solution) if you have difficult areas on which to place decals such as louvers.

Now why doesn't that surprise me? USA home of the Hot Rod

FWIW decals are a great way of getting a good looking car from a terrible colour. When I bought my Policar Ferrari 355 form Pendle, Nick - ever the salesman, sold me the last bodyshell they had for it at the time. So in addition to the actual car (yellow with Coca Cola livery) I got the BROWN
Ferrari shell too.
Hmm.. quick discussion ensued, use of T-Cut for tampo removal etc... and I came home with the decal set for the UPS sponsored Porsche Supercup entry. The brown Ferrari now looks pretty cool

Goose,

Unique UK based decal suppliers are a bit thin on the ground, as I have found out myself. Basically if you don't want to deal with anyone overseas, then an option you could try is this.

Option 1:
This option works best if, you have access to a computer with some sort of graphics/photo package and either a colour InkJet or Laser printer. Plus if the car you want to add the decals to is a light colour - works prefectly with white cars, works very bad with black cars.

Visit www.lazertran.com - they are based in the UK and sell lazertran paper that be passed through a printer and then are a water-based decal with a clear backing sheet.

One draw back is because it is a clear film, white cannot be printed on it (because all printers just use Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black (CYMK) and don't actually print white, if you particular decal design contains white, the white areas will not be printed) - hence use on black cars is a no no!

However it does mean you can measure out the decal you want and print loads in one go. The packs come in 8 A4 sheets I think and aren't very expensive.

You can buy white backed decal paper, unfortunately you will need a steady hand to cut along the edges of your decal - plus in my experience (excuse my 'french') they are crap!

Option 2:
Bite the bullet and use someone like 'Iceman' (who is on this forum) who makes fantastic decals. He is based in the US, but I usually pay him via Paypal and he posts the decals to me. And of all the decals I have used (I haven't had experience of Platto's decals) DMC, Studio 27 - Iceman's are right up there amongst the best.

Option 3:
Try and pick up an ALPS printer (Good luck) via somewhere like Ebay.com, there are quite a few on sale there but many sellers will not post to the UK, plus the shipping costs are high. Why an ALPS printer you my ask? Well, ALPS printers print white and therefore when used with decal paper like lazertran - you can make decals with white areas and apply them to a dark coloured car, with no problems.

Hope this has been of help, any progress please keep us posted and post some finished pics when your done.

Good luck, and cheers

Hallo,

I'm interested in the Alps printer, can you please tell me which model(s) is/are OK for printing decals?

Thanks

about decals with flames in the uk..

you will be able to find a few decals with flames intended for radio controlled cars. So a specialist modelshop for RC would have a few to choose from. Several decals will be too big in scale but there are usually a number of decals on the sheet that are just right in size for a slot car.... I got some decals with flames for my scalex mustang project.....
next step is the chrome supercharger going through the hood - have some ideas for that...

Howdy all,

We have the clear inkjet paper from stock at our (Slot City/Westwood Models) new website - Slotbug based in the UK. In fact we just got it in at the suggestion of a customer. It's 2 GBP a sheet. However just at the moment I have no experience of using it so I know little more than most people!:

Slotbug - Inkjet Decals

We're also stocking a range of repro Spanish Scalextric decals which includes the Corvette Dragster which of course has flames. Unfortunately we are out of this particular item at the moment but here is the rest of the range:

Slotbug - Repro Decals

Jon has been suggesting for a while I sign up as he thinks there are occasions when I can add something useful to a thread. In all honesty with the pressure of trying to run a full-time slot car business it's hard work trying to find the time but if I can help I will and please excuse the self-promotion but we do have tons of stuff here and it seems daft not to mention it if I think it can help.

Regards,

Robert
