Phil Rees, Yan Shen and I arrived at the Paddock Suite in the Donington Park paddock to set up our ten lane replica of the Donington Park short circuit.

Before we did however we had a quick walk around the pits to take a look at these amazing 500 plus bhp cars, many raced by ex F1 drivers, like Johnny Herbert, Christian Fittipaldi, Gianni Morbidelli and the most recent F1 driver Tonio Liuzzi (2011 HRT driver) who was chatting with friends behind one of the pit garages.

With the Paddock Suite also being used by the Super Stars organisers we had to turn the track through 90 degrees, and because they did not have as many tables as usual the track was reduced to 110 feet, although still 10 lanes.

From what we could see Super Stars is a very big event with a lot of sponsorship, money seeming to be no object based on all that was going on in the paddock. It looks like it will be a cracking weekend

Once we had sorted where the circuit was going….

…. we were able to start sorting out the track

Phil started with the chicane…..

…..and by 2100 hours the track was up and running

Just received a call from Donington Park to say that the Super Stars organisers have asked if they can have a photo shoot with Johnny Herbert, Christian Fittipaldi, Gianni Morbidelli, Tonio Liuzzi and the other Super Stars drivers having a go on our track. Managed to get a crew together and we will be leaving soon to sort out, a real coup for little ole DHORC

More to follow....

Johnny Herbert and Tonio Liuzzi were among the Superstars (www.superstars.it) drivers that took time out of racing their 500 plus BHP Touring cars around the Donington Park GP circuit to race on our 110 foot 10 lane replica of the National circuit

Johnny Herbert, Tom Onslow-Cole, Tonio Liuzzi (driving two cars!) and Thomas Schoffler

Gianni Morbidelli (far right) won the slot car race and took pole for the Superstars race, while Thomas Schoffler (second right) was second on the grid ahead of British Touring Car Championship driver Tom Onslow-Cole (second left) who was having a one off race in Superstars

There was a large crowd watching the racing

Thomas Biagi and friends!

More photos of the slot car racing can be seen on the Superstars web site

With thanks to Paul Levers, James Mellor, Ben Roythorne, Cliff Roythorne, Zach Roythorne, Yan Shen and Steve Young we had a fabulous day today at the Superstars race meeting at Donington Park.

Based again in the Paddock Suite in the heart of the Paddock…….

………we were able to take the benefit of being next to the Superstars Paddock Show……

……to pick up racers for our track…..

……of all ages……

….as well as touches of glamour.

We were also able to take some breaks to wander the pits……..

………..and view some of the action on the track.

Considering we didn't know we were going to support this weekend until last Monday the DHORC team did a wonderful job at such short notice and I am indebted to them all

Cheers
