Update No 1

Time to start preparing for our 19th running of the DHORC Le Mans 24-Hour Race on Sat/Sun 12/13Nov11.

An e-mail has been sent to all involved in this year's event. If anyone else would like more details please either PM me or send me an e-mail to [email protected] Full updates will be posted here on a regular basis.

Team News

Having rung round the team captains I am pleased to announce that the following teams will be back this year:-

Allsorts - Which will probably have some additions to the team

DHORC - We have dropped the "Revolution" name now and just going with DHORC. Due to Jamie Sismey being in his last year of college he will be having a year out from the event. I am pleased to advise that Rick Burneson will be joining the team this year, it will be great to see Rick back after a year sabbatical. He is already working on the Team's car bodies and liveries! Cliff Roythorne has also been invited to join the team opening up an extra lane for the event, with his team Virgin HO Racing not running in 2011, which is covered later.

Gixxers - John Fearn returns with a revised team

Miniature Auto Racing Club - Rob Hayes believes it will be the same team making the trip across the pond from the USA again

Sports Carazing - Gary Skipp is also back, team mates to be confirmed

Vorsprung DHORC Technik - Martin Allsopp and Phil Rees' team will again return also with a revised line up

Wrun Wragged - Dean Wragg's World Record Breaking team returns again, possibly with a strengthened team. We had all better start practicing now!

The remaining lane will be filled by a new team Écurie Anglaise entered by Andy Player one of the founders of the Worthing HO Club who I am sure will be pushing the leaders all the way. Andy raced for the first time in 2010 with the Gixxers team so already has some experience of the event. Welcome Écurie Anglaise the very best of luck.

Car Bodies

It was agreed at the DHORC AGM in November 2010 that the 2011 Le Mans event on 12th/13th November 2011 will be for the following car bodies

Aurora Porsche 917;
Tomy GT40;
Tomy Chaparral;
Aurora Ferrari 512
Tomy Shelby Cobra
+ any resin production '65-'79's sports car body raced at Le Mans

Minimum weight is 3 grams, all other body rules listed in '10 Le Mans Rules remain

Line up currently as 2010

Liam Smith joins the 2010 line up from Allsorts while Jonathon Levers and Kev Lye unfortunately will not be running this year

Their 2010 line up may well be strengthened, more info to follow

Apologies for the delay in providing the latest update, with Summer in full swing other things are taking priority with most folk, however there are one or two things to update as covered below:-

Just before I do provide an update I would just like to thank all who contributed to the Sponsorship for last year's event, we handed over a cheque for £822.50 to the Derby Kids' Camp charity

Teams Update

Allsorts

Former DHORC Member Terry Dingley visited us at DHORC 395 on Tuesday 16Aug11, he could well be interested in running with Allsorts, watch this space

DHORC

One of our top drivers Tom Measham is back with the team again this year, it was thought that with Jamie Sismey taking a year out due to him being in his last year at Uni and Tom Chadwick not running that Tom Measham would also not run but I am very pleased to report that he will be racing for us.

Ecurie Anglais (Fully Paid up - Thank you)

Unfortunately Marc Townsend will now not be able to attend but Andy's team has two very keen Rookies with Craig and Paul Homewood lining up to race.

Gixxers

Paul Roach returns to the team after competing in 2010 and Rookie Lee Miller joins the team. They are seeking a fifth driver

Miniature Auto Racing Club (MARC)

No change to previous update

Sports Carazing (Fully Paid up - Thank you)

No change to previous update

Vorsprung DHORC Technik

No change to previous update

Wrun Wragged

No change to previous update

Therefore the current team line up is as follows:-

Cheers

I don't see why not. Knowing people around the world are following the race adds to the fun and - hopefully - will tempt them to race in future years.

Anyone can follow our Écurie Anglaise tweets to see how we're doing in the run-up to the race.

Of course, our main focus is to do well on the track, so any tweets during the 24 hours won't be too frequent - particularly through the night.

It will also be difficult to talk about anything apart from our team in 140 characters

Good. If other teams follow Ecurie's example this would take the pressure off the organisers.

As Walter Plinge's blogs have shown with the EAHORC nationals, sometimes a warts-and-all view outside of the official one ends up enhancing the racing, not reducing it. Mind you, I say that without seeing the post-HONK entry

I'd delay asking the current line-up about 2012 a few days, in my experience one tends to feel like Steve Redgrave during that infamous interview, even when winning!

''If you see my going anywhere near the 24hr track, you have my permission to shoot me''

(Apologies to the legend that is Steve Redgrave)

Somebody remember to check the union flag is the right way up for a change,

Pump out some Heavy D if you get the chance, and have a great race.
