...So how to determine how far to place the IR sensor from the tip of the Flipper...it will be a bit of trail and error.
I would suggest drilling some holes in the slot at various distances and test....

I am getting closer to this point and wondering what @FrankM found for an optimal distance.

my original guess as shown in post #192 worked out just fine. I didn't need to adjust anything.
