Apologies if this is old news, but I saw this response to a question on the UK scalextric site:

Question:
Is it possible to use both the Digital system and the RMS at the same time, or will there be released an new RMS for digital ?

The normal hand controller comes with different ohms, how is that handled in Sport Digital?

Yes, you can use RMS on a Sport Digital layout.

The hand-controllers are digital and do not have a ohm rating since they merely provide a signal to the power base to allow a car go faster or slower. The handcontroller response if linear. e.g. depressed to halfway = 50% power.

think there is a bit of ambiguity on the meaning of 'at the same time' regarding the rms....

the rms lap counter - being mechanical - can be left in the circuit at the same time as the digital gubins; however - i do not see its lap-counting and race management features working very well, since it will believe every car crossing lane 1 is 1 car, and every lane crossing lane 2 as another car...
