I have just received my new scalextric catalouge today and looking through this i found on pages 58/59 a picture of the new digital cross overs.

If the picture is correct and some hasnt inverted the negative, the direction of cars on my current run a clockwise direction, according to the picture cars would have to run a anti-clockwise direction.

Can some ojne in the know about the scalextric digital system (Adrian norman) put me straight on this matter.

Thanks

Yes, a picture often speaks a thousand words.
Without having seen it, I would question whether 'clockwise' and 'anti-clockwise' have any meaning in that I see no reason why the cars cannot run in either direction.

Just checked my catalogue and it looks like it's either one way only or left & right handed crossover pieces. Only left handed is shown in the pic.

Beppe, it is not IXI config, but I\I in a bend, so one assumes the opposite piece of track would have to exist to return to the outer lane?

As all cars are receiving their instructions via the rails of the track is there going to be any problems caused by poor conductivity?. I really am a simpleton when it comes to matters of this damn fangled electrickery!

Mr.M ,
I'm definitely puzzled : as you say, if the crossover is single (rather than double) you obviously need two on a track - but then why are Hornby including only one crossover in their starter set ?
And, if what you have is a figure eight layout, crossovers can just be mirror image (i.e. right and left handed, both say change from inside to outside lane)
But if there's no bridge, this poses constraints on the layout - or you need a same handed but outside to inside second piece

Like I said, could the picture be posted without infringing copyrights etc ? Considering that the catalogue was issued the same day of the announcement, I wonder if what's being shown is final

As for conductivity (or rather continuity) : I don't know, SCX is alleged to have changed their track because of this, but Ninco with their 2 km record should be OK

I have had a very good look at the photograph and conclude that there is more to come.

Lets wait until the London Toy Fair when all will be revealed.

The idea of switching lanes in a second radius curve is sound.

All the other photographs suggest a clockwise direction of travel.

Hornby have said that there will be a seperate Scalextric Digital catalogue. This will contain much more than an analogue Scalextric catalogue including digital track plans, instructions, screen shots of the control system, and hints and tips. It will be designed to wet the appetite for folk who wish to upgrade as well as new first time hobbyists.

This will be well worth waiting for.

A left bend doesn't mean it has to be one way round or another. I have left hand and right bends on my clockwise circuit.

This lane change on the bend looks great, just what you would want. A couple of these around the track and the race would be very interesting.

Scalextric, please make it 4-lane compatible.

Saw the picture (courtesy of Lee) and I agree with him that it's odd : I would have thought that the base LC configuration was inside-to-outside
And if what they are showing is the second LC for ovals then the direction is indeed CCW
They may have selected the shot purely for graphic reasons, but the negative hasn't been inverted (look at the cars) - unless.....oh, I give up !!

Beppe, don't miss the 2-lane or 4-lane thread running more or less in parallel(!)with this one.
I feel sure you won't!

Now I am off to run nice simple cars on a nice simple four lane Sport Track that had all its 'good-idea-at-the-time-but-ultimately-stupid' crossovers removed, after the first meeting almost degenerated into a riot because of the extra deslotting they caused!

You mean you can actually call them and they'll tell you ? I'm amazed

They said there'll be both right hand and left hand LCs - if both are single, outside-to inside, it means that if your track is not figure eight one of the LCs must be on a countercurve - no problem

It is so close to the The London Toy Fair that it is probably pointless entering into any more speculation. Next time I talk about digital I will have had a go.

Its time to break open my "Challenger" box and have a play for the first time with this latest Hornby box of tricks, having been away for a few days. I guess you are not going to hear from me again until the "Challenger" thread elsewhere moves to the top.

I do intend to cut a challenger up in the pure essence of making it go faster.. ahem

now just wait and twiddle my thumbs while I wait for
1) my controller to arrive
2) challenger to arrive
3) my nsx and cuda to arrive and
4) my substantial spares package to arrive
