Hi guys,

I am pleased to announce that next years meeting will be the weekend of April 6th & 7th. The rules and classes will stay the same as previous years.

In addition we will be holding a "Big Birds" race on Saturday afternoon for GP cars from 1950 to 1965. There will be two classes. The first class will be for cars using vintage parts built to the same standards as Double Trouble cars, the second class for cars using modern components to CSCRA rules.

I am sorry that this years event had to be cancelled but we will benefit from the superb facilities at our new clubroom as a result of the extra time spent getting everything right. I would like to thank my clubmates for all their hard work. You know who you are.

Double Trouble Vintage Slot Car Meeting

Rules and regulations

Pre 1968 Sports/ GT cars

Saturday 6th April: Practice day, Big Birds race in the afternoon.

Sunday 7th April: Concours, qualifying and races for Pre 1968 Sports/GT in both 1/32nd and 1/24th scales.

Concours

The Concours d'Elegance score will constitute half the points for each cars overall ranking. Each entrant will be given a small form to list the main characteristics and the history of each car. Cars may be displayed with a photo to prove the authenticity of particular livery. Voting will be by the competitors and points will be given out of 20. The scores for Concours will be displayed after judging. Cars should be presented for concours in the condition they will be raced.

In the event of a tie following the concours and race scores, the concours score will be the decider.

If a car breaks down during the racing it may be replaced as long as the replacement is within the spirit of the meeting. Only the percentage of the race distance completed by the original car will be taken in to consideration, i.e. if the car breaks down half way through the racing 50% of its concours score will be taken in to consideration towards the overall result.

Car Standards

Cars should be constructed from parts available before 1972. The mixing of components from different manufacturers is acceptable.

All cars should be as faithful a representation as possible of a real car. No Thingies, "handling bodies" or the like are allowed.

Please pay particular attention to wheel and tyre sizes so they reflect reality: no O ring fronts or steam roller rears. Ortmann tyres are the "control tyre" and should be used by all competitors. Exception can be made for original equipment rubber tyres. Sponge, NSR and other modern tyres and in particular SILICONE tyres are not allowed. Tyres should be dry when placed on the track.

Repro chassis and bodies are acceptable provided they are virtually identical to the original. Scratchbuilt and recently manufactured bodies (e.g. Betta Classic fibreglass bodies) may be used provided they reflect the spirit of the meeting. No commercially produced resin bodies. Scratch built cars may also be used as long as they use pre-1972 techniques and materials. Anglewinder chassis are not permitted and we request that you do not use B and C can motors..

Open frame motors may use modern neo magnets as they are cheaply available and not everybody has access to a magnet zapper.

The bottom line is that a car should look right and comply to the spirit of the meeting. If it doesn't, the competitor will be asked to run something else.

Entry fee £7 for one class, £10 for two, £12 for all three.

Hi Don,

We've always allowd neo magnets as they are an easy way of reviving tired open frame motors for those who don't have access to a zapper. There are no magnatraction benefits as there would be at Bordeaux as both tracks have copper braid.

I should also mention that the 1:32 track is slightly different as we had to shorten it to make it fir the new clubroom.

Yes, trying to do that with the new Oaklands
Assembly of which starts in earnest next weekend.
Does the driving position remain in the same relative position for your 1:32 track?

Great to hear that Oaklands will be back in business soon.
We haven't had an 'American Trophy' event for a couple of years now.

The driving position at Rockingham will be a little different.
We don't have room for a rostrum so driving will be from floor level.
White and Blue positions will be the same but Red and Yellow will be moved to the left.
This is necessary in order to be able to marshal the bridge.
I'll post some pictures as soon as it's done.

I'm pleased to say that the new Rockingham (formerly Wellinbugger) Club is now open. The first club nights have been run on both tracks and our first open meeting is this weekend:

Rockingham Classic meeting

So it's definitely all systems go for Double Trouble next year

At a few recent vintage meetings there has been uncertainty somethimes whether a body used is a handling body. These are not allowed within the rules.Handling bodies were "carcatures" of real cars which were stretched and lowered. If you're not sure whether a body is a handling version simply find the dimensions of the 1:1 version and divide by 32 or 24. We do not expect you to be exact relating to wheelbase and track but do expect reasonable models of the real thing. Handling bodies will no longer be accepted at Double Trouble and you will be asked to run something else.

The other main area that can spoil the look of a car is wheels and tyres that are too small a diameter and too wide. Suggested sizes are outlined on the CSCRA site:

Pre '62 cars: • Front wheels and tyres: Minimum diameter 27mm, minimum width 6mm
• Rear wheels and tyres: Minimum diameter 29mm, maximum width 9mm

'63 -'68 cars: • Front wheels and tyres: Minimum diameter 25mm, minimum width 7mm.
• Rear wheels and tyres: Minimum diameter 27mm, maximum width 12.5mm.

Obviously there wil be exceptions to the above but I hope this helps with planning your builds..

Hi John.
I don't think I have posted my 'official' entry...so here it is.
Both classes of the D/T please (will be looking for a loan 1.24 from some kind soul...please?) but no Saturday 'Big Birds'. I can't get into this 1/24 'lorry' business at all, even the best of them seem to drive god awful compared to a properly set up 1.32.
