DS200 + timing bridge with horizontal light sensors

812 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Kevan
I have a DS200 and a two lane bridge which is great for putting under a track but what about a portable bridge with a light sensor that shines across the track. I have 3D printed a Dunlop bridge and would like to turn this into a timing bridge that plugs into the DS200 for single lane use.

I know zero about electronics but don't mind building something with the right info.

At its most basic, just turn the DS200 bridge on its side, i.e., put the IR LED on one side and the light sensor on the other. Much easier to do with the latest bridge type, which has separate IR LEDS and sensor boards, but not so hard to do with the older type too. I removed the sensors from a four-lane bridge and mounted them directly under a piece of track, so with a 3D bridge I'd imagine it's even simpler, as you can print a bespoke version that nicely houses all the DS parts.

I know zero about electronics either, so just extended/shortened cables as needed and soldered the wires to the existing contacts on the DS sensors.

I've just moved my DS timing stuff to my new Policar track, which I don't have photos of yet, but the photos below show the sensors and bridge on my old Ninco track, plus on old two-lane DS bridge I no longer use (and some very messy soldering done years ago. I've improved since then:giggle:)

I have the DS bridge in bits, the LED and sensor boards should be easy enough to re-house and that was the original intention. I was more interested to see a smaller alternative.
I am working on a portable bridge with sensors built in, which will display loads more info on a big display attached to the bridge/gantry for as many lanes as you like. Ultimately, it will have a remote wireless connection (if required) and a connection to a pc and/or mobile phone, as options.

Early days though...

I just want a timing bridge to plug into the DS200 to time a single lane for Slot Rally with much smaller circuit boards than the DS bridge.
