Just been checking the Scalextric bible and I had remembered correctly. They offered 3 black tupperware boxes called Think Tank, Fuel Tank and Sound Track. Apparently it provided tyre squeals and gear changes before, according to the catalogue 'suddenly you hear the telltale skid followed by a disastrous crash indicating that your opponent has spun off the track in his endeavours to catch you'
Makes the hairs your neck stand on end doesn't it. Obviously predating Microsoft, otherwise your "followed by a disastrous crash" would be what you got on plugging them in. Seem to remember lusting after these in our local toyshop, despite the fact they were ugly, plasticky, and £30 each!! Seem to remember my whole set cost that much.
