Last night I made contact with David Desguin the creator of ESRM.
David released the first version of his program back in 2016 he developed it rapidly over 15 months inculding the introduction of using xbox gamepads to control cars.

David explained last night how due to his company expanding and therefore getting busy at work he had no time to commit to this project.
However he is more than happy to make available the final release version 3.1.0.9.0 and also to anyone with the right skill set and wants to take it forward the source code to the program.

Below is a link to the Github repository where they can be found.

I asked how long it would be available for and he replied "No Limit"

I think this is excellent news and would ask this post is pinned to the useful links section of SSD

Got it thanks.
To save others getting lost/intimidated in Github, this is what I did:
Following Dave's link, I downloaded the file called "ESRM.Win_3_1_09_0.rar" which I then unpacked to another directory "ESRM.Win_3_1_09_0". Windows can't unpack it by default so you need a third party program. I use Total Commander file manager to do that, but there are other ways.

When I 9wrongly) tried to start ESRM by clicking the application file at the top of the list of installed files, it tried to contact ESRM.fr unsuccessfully and blocked as it doesn't exist any more.

In fact you need to find the "ESRM.Win.exe" file and that launches the ESRM program directly.

Hope that helps others.

Thanks for that Chris.

Yes I downloades 7-zip to unzip it it's free and easy to use.

I created a desktop shortcut by right clicking the file Chris menmtioned (ESRM.Win.exe)

Chris, can you recall the name of the wireless xbox gamepad clones we used back then? as I recall they worked well and were cheap as....

Its a fun program especially when using the xbox controllers (y)
I believe it's also possible to use an android phone as an interface.... I never tried it as I've never had an android phone but may buy a cheap one just to give it a go.
As Greg said earlier I hope someone takes on the development of this, it's very good now but also has loads of potential especially with the many gamepad controls

I used both Xiaomi bluetooth gamepads with an Xbox 360 software emulator and a clone Xbox One controller with a genuine Microsoft dongle. Both were bought direct from Chinese-based sites but the links I had no longer work. I haven't tried them recently with ESRM. If I remember rightly the Xbox 360 were limited to 4 gamepads whereas the Xbox One was up to 8.

I'm excited to be able to use Xbox controllers again!

Well done!

Enjoy,
Shad
Me too Shad, i'm weighing up options now as I no longer have my old ones.

Chris there is a much cheap clone version of the xbox one wireless controller on Amazon I may have to give it a go

Bit off topic however personally I wouldn't touch any of these cheap fake controllers with a bargepole, they do look the business however when you get it you will be sorely disappointed....they are junk...

Why?
- for that price it's knockoff, it will have cheap RC battery, in fact everything inside will be cheap crap despite decent looking shell
- biggest issue that is a showstopper is that the tracking, plug it in to windows and go to gamepad preferences in Control Panel and try all the buttons and joysticks, the joysticks will max out when moved 1/3 of the travel they have, rendering them pretty useless for anything that requires a fine touch or skill

Knock-off controllers are a scurge, my uncle bought a Sony PS4 Dualshock 4 controller from ebay for ÂŁ25 2 months ago, I told it him it would be fake for that price however he went ahead then brought it over next weekend.

First huge fail is that it came with a USB cable, Sony have never shipped USB cables with Dualshock 4 in any market....do not buy any you see

Second is comparing the box with a real DS4 box, his is much more cheap matte/thinner cardboard in finish and the image on back of controller with blue light on is very faded....as soon as you see/feel the two boxes you know i't s fake.

Third is the feel of the buttons, they're not bad but the L3 and R3 give the game away

Fourth - test it in Control Panel as above - this is a huge giveaway it's fake

Fifth - take back off and look at battery - unless it's a grey Sony branded battery and it's a 4.7V RC battery then you've been done....

Worst thing about this is searching on amazon for PS4 Dualshock 4, 8 out of 10 top hits are fake.....they don't have 'Sony' in product title as they are fakes.

Saddest thing about this is kids buying them then getting pumped at Fortnite/Fifa etc. because their controller is a pile of crap and just doesn't work so not fit for purpose.

A year and a half later, and no one has picked it up. :( Love this program and it did indeed have a lot of potential. I actually still use the game controllers as they are inexpensive and wireless. I also love how racers can select their own cars and their name. This used to take me forever between races with RCS64.

Right now, I'm trying to use the ESRM web server to update position number OLEDs on my cars and controllers using an ESP32 chip as these are now tiny and inexpensive.
