Roadkill,

Thanks for the link! I bought the camera for the 12x zoom, I might be going to Sebring 12 hours at the end of the month, but it's pretty good a macro too. Although it doesn't seem to have aperature priority! I haven't read the manual either - always a last resort!

Slot-dad, the photos are much better (I like Herbie's new look as well!)
. Have you tried locking the focusing at the front middle of the car (aim the camera at the middle of the car, even if this doesn't give you the compositon you want), partially depress the shutter release to lock the focus, and then turn the camera slightly to get the composition you want. This sometimes can bring more of a close in subject into focus, instead of giving you in focus coverage of the area immediately in front or behind you subject (car).

Thanks for the help and kind words JT. This Herbie is my first conversion attempt as you can see very simple adjustments I didn't want to risk messing it up plus a like the New Beetle so I wanted to keep the original look but beef it up a bit and at the same time improve the handling hence the Fly Porsche/BMW GTR wheels otherwise the car is standard apart from the bar magnet I've fitted so it can give the GT3's a run for there money. I tried a ScaleAuto 28,000rpm motor:yikes: ...but that was a bit much for poor old Herbie
.
As you can see I've had problems covering the Tampo prints and painting the mirrors so if anyone has some good tips I'd appreciate the advice.
Anyway back to the photos I've found that if I focused on the rear wheels and then focused on the centre. And as you can see it has helped

and here's a pic of the rear end so you really can see the problems I've been having with the tampo badge and mirrors

Depth of field can be controlled by camera exposure. The smaller the aperture (fstop... The hole where the light gets into the camera) the greater the depth of field. This is because the aperture acts like another lense. Before I got my first autofocus camera I would shoot 1:1 race cars by preseting my shutter speed to the slowest one to capture the action without blurring. I would then find my depth of field (where the car would be in focus) was on the track in front of me. Then I would wait until the car I wanted to shoot was in that range and pop the shot... After some trial and error I got pretty good. Still, my first autofocus camera, a Nikon 8008S took my photography a quantum leap forward.

Of course the smaller the f-stop the longer exposure you will need or more light on the subject.

It's helpful to have a camera where you have control over fstop and shutter speed. I would also recommend some sort of tripod and possibly shooting with a time delay on your shutter (set for 10 seconds, to eliminate vibration). For thos shots that seem red, I believe this is the color coming from the light source. If you can, select a tungsten setting for "white balance" digital cameras are much like video cameras in this regard.

FYI my digital camera is a Nikon D70

Hi JC,
Well the the Beetle is a boring old Scalex new Beetle from the Beetle Cup set, but with the help of some decals from MRE and 7 layers of white paint yeah I know I went a bit over the top
I thought it would be fun to make a new version of the old Herbie that I fell in love with as a young lad, way back
he/it was like the Lassie of the car world
.
My Herbie is not perfect but I still think it's better than the Scalex one, I'm now going to do a new one for my daughter but it's got to be shocking pink and I'm having trouble finding the correct paint.
This Herbie is much more how I'd like mine to look if I had the talent
. I think it's a 1/24 scale RC car.
