Not to mention extra wear to the road surface and extra particulates of rubber and brake dust due to the increase in weight.
I'm not sure that there is an increase in brake dust. A lot of the braking is done by regenerative systems so that the batteries are recharged and the energy is recovered. F1 cars have smaller brakes now than they used to despite being heavier because of this feature.

Issues are glossed over because politicians for the most part have almost no grasp of physics and engineering. Only a tiny fraction of UK MP's have science qualifications but nevertheless, they are expected to speak "authoritatively" (so they do) on these subjects and direct the sheep that find them convincing. Pah !

Almost all of the EV‘s here in the Netherlands are company cars.
People choose them because our government stimulates them financially, it has nothing to do with the environment.
One has to add a percentage of the cars value to one‘s income. Currently it is 25% per year, so for a 40.000 euro car it is 10.000 added. with a maximum tax of 52% using the car privately costs 5.200 euro, about 430 euro per month.
To stimulate the use of EV‘s, the percentage was set to 7%! Every manager in the country that drove a BMW 5-er or an Audi A6 switched to Tesla, concerned about their bank account, not the environment.
Of course once the system started working the government increases the perentage again, currently 22% correct me if I‘m wrong.
I have been looking for an EV as well, we have solar panels on the roof and generate more electricity then we use. Currently this surplus is complete deducted from the usage 1:1 but in 2 years this will change: my bills will be higher and I get a lower price for the surplus.

To make a long story short, it will be profitable for me to go electric and I help the environment ;)

But there were horror stories last summer of Dutch driving to the south when their batteries were about empty around Paris, and the couldn’t find charging station.
and that‘s what hold me from going electric, the mileage just isn‘t enough. Now a full tank of gas gets me to the Swiss/Italian border and there is no EV that can keep up with it, and that‘s not gone happen as well.

OT: poor Charles LeClerc server a 10 place grid penalty :(

The thing I don't understand with a lot of EV cars is that things that work and work well like rear view mirrors get replaced with cameras and a led display which both require power to work.

Back on track, looks like Alonso is enjoying himself again.

I think that‘s for aerodynamic reasons, ever seen a Tesla on adaptive cruise control behind a truck?

Alonso is indeed enjoying himself, but so was Stroll with a 4-th place. But it‘s only free practice and most of the times the teams don‘t show their real potential.

Personally, I’d like to see F1 show what an internal combustion engine powered vehicle can do compared to an EV in overall ‘Green’ terms.

I’m sure it’d result in a lot lighter, smaller, nimbler and faster cars which have less negative impact on the environment.

People don't want nuclear power station near them, don't want on land wind farms and don't want solar farms so where is the electricity going to come from to charge all these batteries, that's assuming there are sufficient rare elements to build all the batteries in the first place. Surly the alternative fuel route has got to be a better choice, you don't need to change the vehicle just the fuel. Then all of us that want to drive our vehicles until they die can which cuts out all that waste and all the CO2 from making vehicles that aren't really needed. That or we go back to one, two, four or six horse power and keep the organic food growers well supplied 😁

Chariot racing anyone😂😂

It's all about cradle to the grave on any product, we've been teaching it in DT at school for years, depending on what you include or exclude you can prove anything you want, lies, damn lies, statistics and government statements.

A temporary cycle lane in Birmingham has just been ripped up apparently, put in during Covid, the Costa to put it in and now rip it up, £460, 000, this then doesn't include the disruption costs, public transport is fine in cities, but the network for the rest of us disappeared in 1963/4/5.

We will need hydrogen engines and synthetic fuels as a mix with electric vehicles, it's just not being admitted at Government level.

Considering 2030 in the UK and 2035 in the EU are the end dates for the sale of IC engined cars, how can anyone justify an involvement in F1 now, never mind joining in 2026?

For me, none of this makes sense.
Now it makes sense:
Germany has just vetoed the EU ban on IC powered cars after 2035. It seems to me Porsche an Audi knew in advance that it would happen; which is why they committed to F1. Cynical doesn't quite describe it.

Just watched the F2 sprint race. After two safety cars it ended up being a 10 lap sprint and great fun to watch with real racing and over taking. At the end fifteen out of the nineteen finishers were with in DRS range of the car in front. A sign off things to come with a Red Bull sponsored car winning?

If I look out of my bedroom window I can see one right across the River!

That's Berkeley Nuclear Power Station, but it's been closed down some years now. It was up and running when I moved here in '83, and I don't glow in the dark, really. :)
I was born in Berkeley, my Dad was one of the Engineers during it's build.

i think you might be talking about the one in the town where I live (Sutton Coldfield) as this is exactly what happened.

the stupid thing was that it was around the small ring road and went past a multi story carpark exit with a very difficult to navigate exit.

no one in their right mind would use the cycle lane anyway

A.) of said exit and
B.) you can get across the town (on a bike) quicker and less dangerously by avoiding the ring road anyway

Going to be interesting to see if chocolate eclair and Maxattack can muscle through to the sharp end, think Checo will check out, hopefully the green bull of Alonso can tail him.
In amongst all the flak lou Lou has directed towards his Stuttgart taxi, he ditched his personal trainer of seven years, Angela Cullen, a few days ago, interesting.
