I think if you accept that the 'replica' will in fact be nothing of the sort, and be open to change some parts to make a better slot car track, you can have fun with this.
It really depends on how much room you have, but consider this: Pretty much all permanent slot car tracks, where space is much less of a factor, are not replicas. A reason for that perhaps?
