I don't know if it's just me but I'd prefer not to know which has the brakes, we should be able to figure it out our selves in a couple of corners, isn't rallying all about not knowing what to expect next and having to adjust your driving style as you go aong?

Multi Range PARMA controller:
In response to interest in the switches on my controllers at the Oxford Slotrally:
My controllers are Twin range controllers - Using one 180 Ω 3 W resistor in parallel with the Parma resistor and one On/Off 5Amp toggle switch you can turn a 60 Ω in to 60 Ω / 45 Ω , or a 45 Ω in to 45 Ω / 36 Ω.
You should also be able to convert to a three range model : For this you need to use one On/Off/On 5Amp toggle switch and three 5Amp resistors as shown in the diagram (60/45/34 or italics: 45/35/26 Image 3parma.gif)

For a Twin range Parma use a 5A ON /OFF toggle switch, and replace the three resistors with 1 x 180 ohm

NB1: The parallel link to the Parma resistor is the small tag (max resistance) next to the brake.
NB2: With the switch in the off position you will have a standard controller.
NB3: I have used Maplin 3W resistors for slot rally, however the 5W would be more suitable the endurance.
(Maplin only do 3W or 7W , Rapid on line have a better range and cheaper though you may need to pay postage))
NB4: when using the parallel resistors the values are given at max. resistance, and will give a small none liner effect of around 10% at 1/5 value (most drivers will not notice this).

POWER LIMITING
My 60 ohm Parma has two additional power(voltage) limiting settings, using one On/Off/On 5Amp toggle switch and 2 x 6.8 ohm 3W resistors. However I would recommend that you use 3 Amp Diodes as they will give a more consistent voltage control, in place of the resistors were voltage is more affected by current.
At around 0.4Amps voltage drop is approx. 1.3v and 2.6 v for parallel pairs of diodes, you need to connect 8 diodes as shown (diodelimit.gif) to allow for any track were the voltage is reversed.
NB: You could use 1A diodes, but then risk blowing them under extreme conditions as some drivers have discovered.

PS: Both Oxford Cherwell stages have brakes .

I think I need a degree in electronics even to read that Alan, and the thread about SCX engine servicing & cleaning for Martyn last week, was I confused? Blimey!

I must say I, like I think everybody, thought your timing was second to none, absolutely fantastic.

I realise I must be tho only plonker that:

a) runs the engine that comes with the car when purchased
runs a standard parma controller with only a trigger
c) never know if a track has brakes or not, I just drive 'em!

Probably why I never win then.........(before you say anything Martyn)

Howabout a stage with a standard boxed car, tyres etc. (obviously no magnet) and basic controller for everybody to use just for a laugh?

And I thought I was the only one who didn't understand stuff like that

a ) apart from modified and maybe pro the rules say we had to run the same motors anyway!
b ) that's all I run and quite a few in my group
c ) I can normally tell on a big track but I hadn't a clue last week

Didn't they all have brakes

Chris

Apart from the tyres most classes are box standard. And most of the people I saw were running standard parma controllers

My motor is as the car arrived from Pendles. It just got REALLY manky, Russ reckoned it picked up some Manx Badger fur on The legendary Tholt-y-wil. It just stopped working properly and let me down really badly on the day. You saw how slow it went compared to Ray and Dave's 131s when they were flat out - could barely clear the dead strips on Cherwell 2.

I'm with you on the "standard" idea. Perhaps we could try it at a club event - basic Parma, basic car etc, very one sets a time with it. Perhaps add your best lap to each of yor championship cars totals or something.

See you at Pendle mate

Damn, I thought I was discreet with the Badger fur! Just shows you did not see the Squirrel hair of Fox brush on the night stage, howdoyafink I beat you???

Tholt-y-will is no more and Ryan has sold his swing bridge, but we do have a "flying leap" and plenty of raid track to use plus of course some sand & pebbles from Port Erin Beach leftover. So some sticky NSR's and a ton of weight for our Pajero's and we stand a chance..

Reference the 3pin inline box (plug/Socket) power limit/brake adjust and the multi range controller, some of the information is on Banbury Club Site LINK.
If their sufficient interest shown I will put some Boxes together and stock a small number of the controller components at competitive prices, hopefully by Pendale/Farnham.

Following our regular Wednesday night racing i have agreed with Lawrence that Lawrence and I will run our cars/classes on the Saturday evening to allow more entrants on the Sunday.

For the time being the first two reserves now have confirmed places;

49. Paul Roach
50. Simon James

I will endevour to encourage other Farnham regulars to compete on the Saturday evening also to release more places as we still have two on reserve.

Posted this in the Pendle Slot Rally thread, but probably better hear;

In terms of Hotels/B&B's in Farnham

There are not that many cheap ones!

One we have used a few times before (for guests) is;
http://www.mulberryfarnham.co.uk/

It's a B&B with a pub right next to the train station, about a ten min walk to the club.

Another (not one i have used before);
http://www.1parkrow.com/

Another is the Bush Hotel - it's less than 5 mins from the club (it actually backs onto it);
http://www.accorhotels.com/gb/hotel-6621-m...tel/index.shtml

In terms of eating - lots and lots - many pizza places, lots of good curries and plenty of others.

If anyone is planning to come down on Saturday evening then do say and we can meet up for a drink - probably easiest to simply come to the club (which is open until 11pm) - we are liekly to be around until quite late either setting up or running our stages (to allow more people to run on Sunday).

Hi folks

Is it really a whole 6 weeks until Farnham...?

It's a bit like the F1 summer break....a bit like time standing still....so I'd better see if I can squeeze another few 100th's of a second per lap out of this season's cars, in the meantime!

Cheers
Dave
