Does anybody have any hints as to how to keep a 4wd band on Subaru's and Focus's?
I have spare genuine Ninco 70241 bands which I have used, as both my original Subaru & Focus bands have the same problem half way through practising of coming off and I have changed them for newer ones but same problem occurs. Are the Avant Slot bands any better?
I understand if the 4wd is not operating on a 4wd car in Slot Rally, it will be excluded. Is this still the case between stages? I find it handles worse without a band to make it 4wd so it would be my disadvantage. I have tried a tighter rubber band which works and does not come off but is it within the rules? I know oil on the band stretches it (as I found out the hard way) and I try to prevent oil contamination when oiling the bearings etc. but cannot be certain oil will not get on the band during racing.
Anybody want to reveal any remedies or is it only me this occurs to?
I can honestly say a new 4wd band should not be a problem, in terms of it becoming loose quickly.
Maybe after hard season, perhaps. I put a new one on my Ninco Subaru before Wye Valley in June - the original one which became loose was 3 years old at least - and the new one seems to be holding up well.
I've never had the band come off my Focus or Impreza (the Impreza has two red bands BTW) whereas my MSC 6R4 is pushed to finish a stage with the band on.
Not very helpful I know - but you can always borrow a band from me on the day as I doubt if I'll use either car.
Ensure the pulleys are lined up and the band is not catching on anything. Also ensure the sideways movement in the front axle is minimal so the pulley's remain in line. I've never had an issue as long as I have ensured all the above are sorted.
At £115.00 for a Octane Slot Rally car, it can stay in Pro Stock!
Thanks for the info Matt & guys about the bands. My belts are N70241 so will try Ninco 80207, might be better fit. Will check everything is alligned as great cars to rally, but which one? So far the Focus has the edge, will test at Farnham!
Controllers and In-Line Boxes:
If any one is interested in obtaining an inline Power Limiting/Brake Adjusting Box (Mk2), I have two left at £25 each, and for the moment I will not be making any more.
NB: Farnham will be the last change to obtain them this year, as I will not be at the last slotrally meeting on Nov 4.
For those with appropriate skills you can also get the diagrams and instructions hear.

Also if any one is interested in converting just the Parma Controller, I have a few Switches, Resistors and Diode left.
180 Ohm & Switch £2 (2 range Parma)
3 restores & Switch £2 (3 range Parma)
8 Diodes & Switch £2 (Power limiting Parma)
(Controllers externally fitted with Resistors / Diodes)
Farnham will be the last change to obtain this year, as I will not be at the last slotrally meeting on Nov 4.

Another tip is not to get any oil on them at all, as this will make them expand.
