Hey guys! Which do you think is the fastest bog-standard modern scalextric car(s)? Well I said bog-standard, I meant with no major mods, only oil, sanding the tyres and maybe loosen a few screws. I just thought it'd be interesting to see if everyone has the same answer!

Cheers.

Hey FZDoo-dah, you trying to get inside info to trash us?

Mustangs are, sadly, very very fast and not at all scale in operation. Cameos (sic) ditto. But as you may have seen, my Lo-Lo can whip their sorry derrieres on the more sweeping outer lanes but stumbles badly on the inners.

I have, however, heard that the newer Corvettes are a tad tasty. Hence my interest in several on ebay as we type....

Trust Squeezy to produce a different angle! Nice work, son.

F1 cars are rarely mentioned in these, 'which is fastest' discussions, but I think this is only because relatively few poeple have them, compared with the apparently more popular LMPs, sports cars etc. I suspect that the relative difference in popularity is probably due to the visual attractiveness of cars with greater bodywork area permitting gaudier color schemes, rather than anything to do with performance. I guess there are also far more varieties available.

It's a shame in a way, because the previously mentioned Renault and Toyota F1s absolutely MUST be among the best performing RTRs on the market, together with other, cheaper single seaters from Scalextric

Well my own track record was consistently held by my Mustang (the Lola's come close).......

However, the record was trashed by my De Walt TVR Tuscan on one occasion (0.5 sec quicker)............unfortunately I haven't been able to replicate this lap since !

My experience is that the Renault F1 is the fastest, closely followed by the Toyota F1. Then there is the Mustang with the Camaro following right behind. Lola's are probably about as fast as the Camaro, but a tad slower than the Mustang.

That's my list from driving the cars at our club track (Scalextric Sport with standard power). I imagine the TVR and Vette would do better on a smaller home track.

Hey Wankel, that's exactly what I am trying to do!!!

No really, I just need something faster than my banging old Focus, that's the only Scaley car I got you know... Do they not run F-1 cars at all in the club?

This just proves that what is fastest for one is not for another.

In my recent experience, Cameros are faster than Mustangs but neither as quick as a Corvette (all without magnets).

Funny how a little motor and a few bits of plastic can "feel" and perform with such variation, isn't it. Makes me sympathetic to the F1 guys trying to build complex cars to the same regulations yet finding one can be seconds quicker than another.

the SLOWEST scaly car I have ever driven is the WRC focus RS

Another factor along with the Wankels point the mustang's speed is not correctly to scale: scalextric also seem to have decided todefy the laws of physics so that a plastic slot car that is narrower and taller and I think heavier too can be competitive with the model of the lola-MG

I picked up an old SRS2 Mazda 787b (in the white and blue livery) from ebay and it arrived the other day - tried it out and its the fasted car I have (i think) really enjoyable to thrash around the track!

The slowest car I have is the Scalextric GT-40 (the one with the rear axle movement), I took the magnet out and its a real dog...
