Hi Rich! sorry missed this the first time round. Fate is right, the only difference between the lemans winning '63 250P and the '64 275P was the engine size, the '63 3.0lt & the '64 a 3.2lt.

The MRRC version that was around about 4 years ago could be used as a basis for either version, it just comes down to the decals you finish it off with. The MRRC car was available in red, white, yellow and black! As I was going to repaint mine anyway I located a white one, but I guess with prepping any would do. The wheels are very crude (the same as BUMslot has been using until recently) I've put PinkCar ones on it but may change to the new spokes from Cartrix as fitted to their new classic GP Mercedes.

The question is how do I finish it off? 63 lemans winner, 64 lemans winner or how about the 63 Targa Florio car as driven by Surtees/Parkes?

I'm afraid Rich that they came with horrible stick on roundels when they left MRRC and didn't represent cars from the previous mentioned races. These models were not kits but ready to run slotcars and did not not come with any decal sheets. MRE in England and Patto's Place in Australia are good source of decals if you want to replicate specific racecars.

Prof, I didn't know that MRRC had released this as a kit! Do you know who stocks it? (I'm sure Rich and I would like to obtain a few.)
Out of interest the RTR one's have a very simple plastic inline chassis with a standard looking small can motor, however they are unbelievably quick. I have glued a small magnet in below the pinion and on those cartrix tyres, it can lap my circuit just 2 tenths off the record set by a Fly Lola 98!

p.s. I think I'm going to go for the Targo Florio car first, I just love those big white squarish numbers Ferrari used in the early 60's!

Sorry its taken so long to get back to with the pictures Richard, heres how I finished off my MRRC/Monogram 250/275p.

This was the Surtees/Parkes 250p from the 1963 Targa Florio, I completely disassembled the model and sprayed it with 4 coats of Tamiya Italian Red (TS-8) and finished it off with MRE transfers.

The wheels are the Pink Car ones as used on their GTO models and available from Gaugemaster as a pair of axles with tyres. These have been toned down a bit using a mix of silver and grey enamel paints.

Thanks, guys for your comments. Danny the driver is infact just new head attached to the original moulded interior. The head is one of a pair of Classic Drivers offered as a spare by PINK CAR. I thought that the original drivers head looked a little small.

As for the chassis, as I said before this model is based on one of the MRRC RTR cars that were around about 5 years ago and apart from a small magnet and the wheel and tyre change it completely stock.

I have now started work on 2 more classic Ferrari open sports cars, one of them is based on a TAYLORMADE (who remembers them?) vac formed shell, which is at least 35 years old! and one of Gordon Tapsells (GT) excellent early 70's mouldings.

Regards GT
Yes Howmet, I'm affraid that they have been! The GT models shell is a '71 Ferrari 312p that was bought new by me from the Rodale club shop in Brighton late 1971 and until this week had never been trimmed or painted! I will post shortly in the scratch section but here's s sneek.

Your just going to wait on the Taylormade shell, but I can't wait to tell you what is???
