Hi community,

that`s my new project and standing at the moment:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

I`m trying to build the version of the Ferrari 612p, driven by Chris Amon in Las Vegas 1968.

I`ve only one picture of the real car of this version. Could someone help with more "real" pictures?
That`s the version with the "round" start-no. field on the front.

The base is not finished yet. The third outside mirror is in production with other details too.

Thanks in advance,
Michele

Here are a couple from my album:

and, after the "field expediency" areo bits were added:

Here is how I built the wing:

piano wire bent and silver soldered - the wing itself was folded up from 0.010" styrene sheet, slit on the bottom and wrapped over the horizontal support and then end caps added:

It survived a series of racing mishaps that reduced to body to scrap!

Hi EM,

thank you very much four your interesting post with great pictures.

But now I have a big confusion.

I started my project after seeing this picture:

Font: http://www.scale143.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2353

You can see there is a big difference (size & form) of the front aereo bits & on the wing too.
The third mirror is missing too.

I suspect that these are different versions, changing the aereo bits from track to track due the track characteristic.

Best regards, Michele

PS: Great job on your air-wing base!

Hi @ all,

today I got a PM & answer on Slotcarillustrated.com from the user "hwrestos" to my questions.

I`ll copy & paste a very helpful explanation how things/modifications have really happenend:

When this car ran at Vegas in 1968, it appeared for practice with a thinner number "23" on the roundels (thinner font), and the car was minus all of the aerodynamic add-ons; the vertical strakes that stick straight up on the rear clip were not present, nor were the ones above the front wheel wells, or the ones at the very forward corners of the car. Also absent at practice were the Fram and STP stickers. The large spoiler mounted between Amon and the engine was in place though. Throughout practice, the car was determined to be too heavy, and braking and handling were proving to be difficult. During the pracitce sessions, all of the aerodynamic add-ons were slowly appearing, in an attempt to remedy the handling issues. The Fram and STP stickers would have been added at tech inspection by race officials prior to the race, and the team would have applied fresh #23's to the roundles, apparently using a thicker font for the race.
In summary, the picture below is how the car looked when it arrived at Las Vegas in 1968 for pracitce, the picture above is the way the car appeared at the starting grid. The #10 Simonize car and the #17 McLaren confirm that the picture above is indeed from the 1968 Vegas starting grid. Vegas (the last Can-Am race of that year) was the only race that 612 managed to compete in that year, only making it to the first corner of the first lap during the race, therefore there are very few (if any) pictures of the car racing, but many of it as it appeared during practice.
Hope that helps!

I got the same explanation on a italian forum too.

Thanks @ all - now let`s continue.

I`ll post new pictures this week.

Best regards,

Michele

Hi guys,

please excuse me for reviving this old thread from the catacombs.

Due to a serious motorcycle accident, I was unable to continue working on the Ferrari.
The functionality of the shoulder and right arm were limited for a long time.
Now, slowly but surely, the functionality is there again since few weeks, so that the work can be continued on the Ferrari.
Believe me guys, it was not a nice time!

Now I`m back and I`m working on the 612p again, like on another project too (Ferrari 312 F1`67 - Chris Amon).

I`ll post pictures very soon.

Cheers, Michele
