Geee, it's almost as fast and handles almost as well as a Corvette C6 Z06 for only 5 times the price... Quick, put me on the waiting list!

Nice looking car, but I wish they would get away from the Toyota Supra looks and get back to what Ferraris used to look like, as in a 1958 TDF. I think that while the Enzo is pretty wild if somewhat ugly, the 360-430 look too much like a Japanese car on steroids. Of course it is just an opinion of a jealous would-be owner...

Hmmm, I generally dislike Ferrari cars but the 360 and this one too have pleasing look to 'em.
Not sure I'd liken them to Supras though?

The spy shots I've seen of the 'Vette look a tad like someone in the Orient penned it though.

I agree withe TSFR that the styling of the 360 / F430 is rather bland. Same goes for the recent Lambourghinis - Galliado and Murcielago, in my eyes...
that is - in pictures. When I have spied any of these cars in real life (can't say about the 430 yet!) my reaction is wow whats that! Goodness me its a ............... (fill in the name of appropriate super car)
Having said all that, the only super-car with no bootspace that I would really put up with is a ford GT or GT40!

Talking about this it was interesting to compare the performance of the old Corvette C5 and the Ferrari 360, recently shown oh-so clearly in a story in Road & Track. The Vette, now made of space-age plastic over an extruded alloy frame of very low hertz frequency, out-performs the 360 in EVERY segment (acceleration, braking, top speed, cornering speed, comfort, amenities) while the EPA-measured fuel consumption is nearly ONE HALF of that of the Ferrari.
So something funny happened earlier this year, which was briefly reported on Car On Line: during a conference in Brussels on front of a "European Commission on Environmental Matters" or something like that, Ferrari's (and now FIAT's) Luca Di Montezemolo blasted the US for their apparent wasteful automotive habits. This is when a well-known automotive journalist apparently pointed out the eer... facts cited above, and Luca just did not know what to say, then muttered something about the wasteful US SUVs. But this is when the journalist in question (an employee of a German specialty magazine) pointed out that the Jeep Cherokee V8 was getting better mileage than the Euro BMW X5.
I don't think this guy is going to be invited in Maranello any time soon to drive an Enzo in a private session with MS, eh?

So the Yanks may have a few aces in their sleeves? I just saw the new Vette at the Anaheim auto show. It does not look any worse in finish and materials than the 360 on display there... and still costs only 1/5th of the price of the Italian stallion while guarantying 19-28 city/hwy mileage and 196MPH top speed, with a 0-60MPH in 3.9". The warranty is also a lot better... and it HAS a large luggage space.
But no cavallino rampante on its sides...

I have to say, well I don't but I will, that whilst killing time in Borders yesterday I read a little bit in a magazine about the space-age plastic car and what you say of the dynamics appears to be true, from their brief acquaintance with it. They chose to compare it to some Porker and were not at all dismissive.
I think they have their work cut out in Europe to convince folk that it can do corners, mind.
It ain't my kind of aspirational car, though. I'd take a 360 if you forced me.

Of course, the 360 is a much more attractive proposition because of its legacy, but as far as cornering, the facts are clear on the skidpad and slalom: the Vette crushes the 360.
Then there is...Le Mans, where the 360 have a 4-year history of rather disastrous results, while the Vettes have really shown their worth over the same period. This is how you get a racing reputation for endurance and speed.
It's all in a name, isn't it? Either you own a prestigious cavallino-FIAT which costs you 10 grands every time you go for service with a 30-second/30-yard warranty, or you drive a mundane Yank-Tank with zero prestige and a K-Mart image (and a 50K miles/5-year warranty including all services) and buy a house with the balance including a 100' Carrera slot car track with all the amenities.
What a difficult choice! I won't sleep over this one.

Almost wish I hadn't sold my house... neighbour owns GM dealership and I have driven his C5 Corvette (C6 coming

). The C5 made me a believer (and I was a skeptic of huge proportions). Newer Vettes DO go around corners, they DO brake, and they DO accelerate. They also have an ambience that encourages one to flirt with jail time should one be caught while having fun!

Yes, that 430 looks nice, but I tend to put value in front of prestige - heck, it could look like a Skoda but if it outperformed a Vette or Ferrari, and cost less, I'd buy it!

Yeah, I admit it - I'm a snob. I'd pass on the K- Mart look and go with some breeding and an illustrious heritage. It doesn't matter just how fast these damn things are because 90% of the buyers wouldn't be up for the job of pilot anyhoo.
