Mercedes had a rather expensive cigarette lighter in Bahrain....

From the telemetry, Kimi was told by his pit that the engine was about to go. Rather than flick the 'kill' switch, he floored the throttle, pumping fuel into the engine to produce this spectacular blaze.

After the frustrations of the first three GPs, who can blame him! Ron Dennis was not amused....

Kind regards

From a personal viewpoint, I've never understood why sports car racing isn't the #1 motor racing interest in the world and the dullsville of F1 is. Compared to the characterless projectiles of F1, a field full of road-going super cars is a much more interesting prospect. I mean to say if a race series with the 70s equivalents of the desirable machinery seen these days, the 550s, 360s, 911s, Saleen, TVR, Mosler, Vette, Vipers, Marcos et al had been shown live on Sunday afternoons when I was a nipper I would have practically wee'd myself in excitement.

Le Mans should be the biggest race in the world yet even in the UK the Bentley victory last year got only a cursory mention in the national media. Any ideas why?
