I forget... Everyone was moaning on about Firefox and Mozilla being the only choice for web browsing so I downloaded it, and now I can for the life of me see why it's any different to IE. Anyone know?

I find two differences: 1. It is faster than IE or Netscape and 2. My IE and Netscape would go into the ozone at irregular but frequent intervals requiring that I shut down my DSL modem and network hub and reboot my computer to restore functionality - Firefox seems unaffetected by whatever the problem may be - oh - any another + - it is not a Micro$oft P.O.S.

I was having to run AdAware and a full virus scan every couple of days when I was using IE as my browser (on WinXP), now I have gone over to Firefox that is down to once a fortnight and I have suffered precisely no browser hijacks or javascript popup dungeons.

Forget what you might have thought about Netscape in the past (as Mozilla is basically an Open Source version of that old browser) I've yet to find anything that doesn't work properly with it. It also checks for new versions automatically and all the patches it has downloaded have been only a couple of k a piece.

Now if they would just add the mouse 'gesture' shortcuts from Opera (right mouse + sweep left for back etc.) I would be a very happy boy!

Being a mac user I dont really get affected by any spyware or brower hijacks, but the main improvement I can see in firefox over safari is speed, it's certianly nocticable.

Although it looks nowhere near as good as safari

The "Image Zoom" extension is also excellent.

By right clicking and scrolling the mouse wheel simultaneously over an image you can instantly resize it to whatever magnification you want. It's great for shrinking large photos which stretch out the forum because the window resizes with it. It's also good for enlarging little pictures so that they are easier to see.

I'm definatly a Firefox convert and now I'm off to download the extensions that Nuro suggested...

QUOTE For tabbed browsing, pop-up control, cookie management, password management, skins, RSS reader (Alt-R) and extensions.

You will find the mouse gesture extention, GMail notification and one that works well with the forum: the BBCode extention.

Hey, anyone got a Babelfish I can borrow?

Here y'are Scott:

BBCode is this stuff (without the spaces):

[ img ] http: / / page . com / image.jpg [ /img ]

[ font ] "Verdana" [ / font ]

GMail is like hotmail, a POP3 (login) email service.

Cookies are stored bits of webpages

Tabbed browsing ( I assume) is using tabs to switch window ratehr than having different windows.

Skins are the look of the browser

I dont know what RSS is though.

SlotForum now supports Live Bookmark RSS feeds. Using Firefox (make sure you have V1.0, look at the icon on the lower right of the browser. You can add that to your links toolbar (for example) and it will automatically update when the news updates.

I've decided to give Firefox a go and installed it on my machines at home and at work.

Seems nice so far. I like the tabbed browsing and have installed the google toolbar, since I use the UK google site to search.

Will probably try a couple more extensions.
