Well, there wasn't a lot to say about that meeting, but we've had a couple more since, the latest being on a club member's large 4-lane personal Scalextric Sport Track, as opposed to the club's own even larger SCX track.
This was very interesting from the point of view of comparison with the club's own large SCX track. Most of the best drivers have pronounced that they don't really like the Sport, because it's too slippery (relative to the SCX). Personally, I much prefer the Sport for its better resistance to warping and I positively WELCOME the decreased physical surface grip because it keeps speed to less ballistic levels. This gives the old farts with failing sight and reflexes a much more even chance of scoring AND reduces the crash damage when we do come off. It's an absolute PIG to drive no mag cars on it, BUT the foregoing comments then apply twice over and I can often score some points in this situation. I LOVE the fact that sheer brute speed will not win a race, but cunning and careful throttle control within the limits of tyre/track grip can certainly do so.
After the race, our host announced that he had sold the entire Sport Track to a friend and would be replacing it with . . . wait for it . . . SCX! But all was not as simple as it seemed for, under deep interrogation, he confessed that he already had more than enough SCX lying around to do the complete replacement and that the REAL reason for replacement was that he couldn't sell the SCX for love or money but COULD redeem much of the Sport Track Cost.
What a bloody shame - no more cunningly won points for poor old Trop!
