Flashing corner / bend lights - installed and working

A while ago I mentioned I was working on LED running warning lights mounted in a sharp road bend curve sign.

The lights are triggered by an infra red circuit set beside the track just before the corner. The lights stop just after the car has passed.

Here it is installed and working. The project is not too complicated but a bit fiddly.

It's very rough and ready still as I haven't concealed the workings or wires and completed the landscape yet. It should look good when finished though!

The sensor circuit is ostensibly an ebay kit.

I can go into detail about the oscillator circuits that are mounted on the side of the layout table if anyone is interested.

I intend to build a dummy solar panel to mount above the sign in due course.

The duration and speed of the lights can be set independently. They look a little bit brighter here than in real life. It works when cars approach in either lane.

Power at present is from a 12v DC source.

A video is here;

(the video is taken close up as I had to balance the ipad camera on a paint pod whilst pressing the shutter and controlling the car at the same time)

Great work Keith ....... that's a nice project that will add a bit more excitement to race days ....

Will you be posting more details of how you achieved it?
Very cool idea and implementation!!!

Will do Greg. If you have any specific questions just let me know. Cheers. K.
A very nice project that has added something new to the mix :thumb:
Keith - where did you get the PCB from ....... did you buy it or is it one that you designed??
On another tack Keith, with a little bit of planning and a change of LEDs to blue .......... you could make a sexy little pit occupancy warning system ......

As I said Greg the sensor circuit is an ebay kit very similar to the one in this link below:

You can t go wrong at this price - much cheaper than knocking one up yourself. The pigs ear on the Veroboard could also have been done in similar way too I have since discovered. I am going to use that on my next thingy currently underway.

I will add some comments soon when I have a minute.

That was an unexpected piece of work there Keith ...... you certainly took us by surprise by just announcing a finished project .....

This is how things used to be done here, I look forwards to the next one ..... :)

Well, all the fore mentioned gubbins on the Veroboards. i.e. the combined 555 based oscillator and 4071 decade counter circuit, can now be substituted by this nifty little Aliexpress version. This is much smaller being SMD component based and on its own PCB.

Just wire these two kits up together and extend however many you want into a suitable road sign and there you go!
