Hi Mike, I've got quite a steep downhill section, which I've got to work by using half straights, so I have more joints, with less of an angle between each. It works well. Here's a pic:

The drop is about 15cm, which starts under the Capri. the track is flat on the board by about halfway around the hairpin.
