Why won't they put the headlamp covers on? It doesn't half put me off. The hardest thing to do on a scratchbuilt anyway- if the factory won't do it for me, I'm not tempted by an expensive RTR or even a kit that needs that much extra work....
Unless anyone out there has some really cool tips on how to make them easily?
"We tried fitting lenses over the Aston Martin DBR1 but it did not look as good as without it because of optical effect and that they would be quite difficult to fit and would be very fragile. At this time, the MMK cars can be raced and crashed hard with little consequenses. Fitting clear lenses to the H/L would cause these to fly off easily and increase cost beyond what is acceptable for a hand-built car. So unless we find a better way to do it, we would rather leave them out. We considered offering separate vac-formings to be customer-fitted but it would increase cost too much."
I am myself a bit disappointed not to have such lenses fitted, but this is due to the vast difference between hand-cast resin bodies and expensive injection-molding. On one hand, you get cars that the major manufacturers will possibly never produce, on the other hand, you loose a bit in detail.

I think the manufacturer's explanation is totally and utterly unconvincing!!!

Sorry Mr P - absolutely no reflection on YOU, whatsoever and thanks for posting the unvarnished truth.
I seem to recall that there were problems with clouding on some of the earlier (Alfa) clear resin windscreens. Perhaps this could have been a consideration for the headlamp castings too?
Mr tx, no offence was intended. Rather, please consider my remark a tribute to your considerable talents. The "expensive" was an oversight on my part due to my PC monitor being partially obscured by biscuit crumbs.
Someone here recently posted a pic of the ready-to-run TopSlot C type Jag at criccrac.com which seemed to have headlight covers. Its wheels also look more 3 dimensional wire wheels than MMK's earlier offerings. Albeit from just one photo, the Top Slot looked a little nicer just because of these 2 small details and the prices are almost identical. I have three earlier MMK cars but these two minor issues annoy me enough to stop, even though their Ferrari is very, very tempting.
Any chance of a comparison would be well received as there are no Aus importers of either Top Slot or MMK any more.
Actually, I just got the Jag C-types and Ferrari Mondials today, and they are getting better and better with every new issue. The C-type is not the same model year as the Top Slot and is different in many details. The Top Slot retails in Europe for 110 Euros or USD143.00. In USA it would be around $160.00 with transportation and duty. The MMK is a LOT less expensive at $129.95, so it can afford to be a bit less detailed. MMK of course, manufactures the bodies for Top Slot, and Top Slot finishes them and set them on their own chassis.
I have also been told that the cloudy windshield can be fixed by a simple application of a clear polyurethane varnish. Worth a try...
