[Dave Wisdom]

This model has been built using an Ocar Ford Capri RS2600 resin bodyshell. Not everyone's favourite Ocar bodyshell, but I've used one to create my own impression of a touring car I often admired via the pages of 'Autosport' magazine during the 1970s.

Although the late Gerry Birrell enjoyed considerable success in single seaters during the late 1960s and early 1970s, I always associate him with the Ford Escort and Capri of the period; in particular the BP Belgium liveried examples. The 1972 Spa car perhaps represents one of Gerry's greatest touring car achievements, being placed 2nd along with co-driver; Claude Bourgoignie, at the end of 24 hours. Although one of the official works Ford entries at Spa, the Birrell/Bourgoignie Capri was finished in the popular BP Belgium yellow and green livery, which sets it apart nicely from the more familiar corporate ford colours of blue and white.

The car has been built to compete in the 2012 pre 1980 classic saloon car classes at my local clubs in the North East of England (NERCS and Tyneside Slot Car Club), as I shall be retiring my current 2010 contender; Frank Gardner SCA Freight Services Camaro Z28 at the end of this season (for the time being&#8230

Hi Simon.

I wasnt really happy with my first set of pictures, so heres another set just for you! I've had a go with the gizmo to try defelcting light and shadow. I'd not completely finished it before (realised after I'd taken the first pictures), but I've now painted the rear valance green panel properly and applied some klear.

Very nice work indeed. Definitely a silk purse from a sow's ear.
The lines of that OCAR kit are wrong in a number of ways, but the beautiful job you've done on the Capri renders that unimportant.
Goes to show that a skilled builder can overcome a problematic kit.
