First pictures of the Maxi Models McLaren/Amon GTP 'J' car from the Le Mans test weekend 1966 (MX 019). Ford began development of the "J"-Car early in 1966. It had the same basic drivetrain and suspension, but the chassis and body were a massive departure from the Mk II. Built using the latest aircraft construction techniques embodying epoxy-bonded aluminum honeycomb sandwich, it was as stiff as the Mk II, but the complete J car was some 400 lbs lighter.

I kind of answered my own question here..

Following are some additional details of this remarkable looking car, direct from Maxi Models..

QUOTE MAXi-MODELS latest release is now in production - the striking GTP "J" Car, that was driven at the 1966 Le Mans test weekend by Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon. See attached JPEG image.

This, strangely little modelled race car, formed the basis of the Ford Mk IV, winner of the Le Mans 24 hour race in 1967. So it will be high up on the list of any model car collector, especially those who remember the Airfix/MPC plastic kit from the 60's. It's the modelling missing link that completes this marque's stunning '60's Le Mans 24 hour race history.

As usual our high detail model is available in various formats to suit all budgets. Prices start at £45 for our unpainted SPRiNT kits, these fit to a modified Scalextric/Superslot GT40 chassis with all its running gear in place.
Our Collectors Series limited edition kits (175 in total), are supplied with a bespoke chassis and all the running gear required, these retail at £99 in prepainted form. Individually hand built examples (only 75 to be made), are supplied with a scenic display base depicting the "Esses" section of the legendary La Sarth track, and will be available to order at £199 each.

Our models are available through our selected authorised dealers worldwide or directly from ourselves, the maker. To see the whole MAXi-MODELS product range, and our dealer listing go to - www.maxi-models.com
