Hi,

I'm new to Slot Forum so be gentle with me!

I had an old Scalextric Ford Taurus (ex Bash and Crash - silver crash test version).

Wanted something with a bit more menace so did this.....

Stripped all paint, sprayed interior and exterior matte black finished with auto polish to soften it to satin black. Added superbright white LED's for headlights and clear LED's that light up red as rear running lights.

Wife hates it so I must be on the right track! What do you think???

Looks great, I like adding lights to cars that never got them.

Could do with a little detailing on the body though.

Thanks for the comments. Much appreciated.

Robb - what sort of detailing? I'm newly returned to this (33 years since my last Airfix kit!) so I'm a tad rusty!

My next one is a Porsche 935 Turbo (Scalextric C.125) - some had front lights I know but none had rear lights as far as I am aware. I've got some rectangular red LEDs...

I also bought a tired Datsun 260z and a BMW 3.0 CSL (batwing). How about the satin black and lights treatment on those?

So many cars... so little time...

Not so much detail, more making it less black... maybe some silver for the grill, bonnet and spoiler rivets?

I thought the Porsche turbo's had rectangular led rear lights...
Didn't the late ones have the brake light circuit?
I know some did have lights and some didn't.

Thanks for the feedback.

OK -
I take the point on a bit of silver to make it a bit less monotone. I have some chrome paint I might try out.

I'm new to Scalextric (parents bought me a train set even though I asked for racing cars! - Taken me 40 years to get over it!!!) so late Porsche turbos could very well have had rear lights, I'm clueless on Scalextric history but I'm learning.

I have bought 6 Porsche 935/911's (went a bit mad on ebay and then at the Slot Car Festival in May at Gaydon).

3 of my 6 Porsches are very early - one has "C.125 Porche" moulded on it (YES REALLY A SPELLING MISTAKE!).

The 3 later ones are spelled correctly - they have a single bulb lighting a clear plastic feed in to each headlight.

Maybe even more recent ones had rear lights - no seen any yet but then Evilbay is hardly the font of all knowledge, I suspect there's stuff in existence that you can't buy there!

OK so I accept the rear lights probably won't be unique. One of the Porsches has badly marked glass and I was thinking about sanding it (well toothbrush and Oven Cleaner) to make it semi-transparent and adding a muted red LED in the cabin to give it a red glow going around the track. What do you think? Sinister enough?!?

I also have a C052 Escort RS1600 with half a chassis and scratched glass (didn't pay anything for that). Spent ages sanding and fettling it. Just sprayed it matte black this evening and it looks brilliant. Will do the sanded glass with red lighting thing on that and use a Slot-It HRS chassis I bought in Gaydon to mount it on. Just ordered 5mm super bright white LEDs which will fit perfectly in the headlight recesses. Game on!

Hmmmm. Storm trooper helmet.

My son has a Lego Storm Trooper. Are they to scale?

Think I should decapitate the toy in the name of Scalextric Art???

Thing is I would have to keep him away from the Scalextric track then - impossible coz he's only 5 and hasn't asked for a Playstation yet!!!
