Years ago i bought a World Classics Ford Zodiac MK3 Monte Carlo Rally 1963 resin kit, complete with decals etc.

I can't find on-line any reference photos for this car either black and white or colour.

Any one able to advise on the main colour - the printed kit instructions have a dark green.

The livery is that of Gerry Burgess and Ian Walker #29.

Also the kit recomends GOM MInilites (which have not been around for some time), i have some spare SCX Ford Escort wheels/tyres, but to my eyes they look small.

Anyone out there got any tips on the Ford Zodiac MK3?

Thanks in advance

Mk3 Z-cars had 13" rims as did the Escorts, Gareth. They would, in standard road trim, have had a much higher profile crossply tyre though.

Actually - i'm now more confused!

Looks like at least one of the Zodiacs ran on pressed steel wheels (at least for the race around the harbour).

However from that site car #29 was Tilley / Prentice in a Vauxhall?

Anyone help? - have World Classic got the decals wrong?

The decals supplied are #29, reg number KOO 50

Hi there Gareth.

A while back, I built a Resin Mk 3 Zodiac (photo posted) as a mild custom road car.

The "minilite" style wheels I used on it, are from a Scalextric Caterham 7. The rim to tyre size is 12.5mm, which when scaled up to 1:32 scale is nearer to 15" full size.
I think they look well on the car, and look more in proportion to the size of the car, although for a 1:32 scale rally car build, they might be a bit on the large side.
Having owned a few full size Mk 3 Zodiacs/Zephyrs. I always thought the 13" wheels looked to small, especially when fitted with the later Radial tyres.

Resin wheel inserts are available in various sizes, to fit P.P. or slot-it ally wheels.

By the way.. The tyres I used on the Scalextric Caterham 7 wheels, are from the Scalextric BMW Mini, they fit and look great.
I hope the info is of some help to you..

All the best.. Martin De'Ath.

Gareth, no Monte cars were on minilites back then. Skinny pressed steel wheels were the order of the day. They were 13 inch diameter and up to 4 1/2 inches wide. The tyres were of standard road tyre profile and definitely not low profile. If you look at the wheels and tyres on the standard road car pics, you will see that they looked a bit small for the car, but they are what the rally car would have used. They were the same diameter as the Anglia and Cortina, bur had 5 wheel nuts instead of 4. I am not sure where you would find inserts of this type, but Dave Wisdom may know as he used something similar on his Sunbeam Rapier.

Regards, Lloyd
