There is an idiots' guide, it is called the 'Slotforum Handbook' LINK and it is at the top of the front page but very few people bother to read it! It doesn't contain the search thing at the moment but I am sure that Jason will add anything you want to it if he is asked.

Yes, I'm happy to add whatever you want to the Handbook, but I'd need somebody with some experience of using the Advanced Search to write up the basics, as I very rarely use the search, and have never used the advanced version.

Back in the good old days (I'm joking, I'm joking!), it was relatively easy to contact the moderators. I may be staring at something right in front of me,but I can't for the life of me see the "Contact mod" button or "the mods for this forum are...." listed in the forum page.

Is it the view I'm using, perhaps?

It depends on who you want to contact and why.

There is a "report" link on every post, which gets through to the main mod team. Or there is a link for full list of all the moderators at the bottom of the main "Forums page".

WOW! Advanced Find is Wonderful!

Now for my next question - does anybody apart from CMOTD and Coides know about this feature?
I use advanced search occasionally and find it very effective. Its existence isn't very obvious though, indicated only by the little icon to the right of the search box. Perhaps this icon could be altered to something which better signposts the advanced search facility?

I've managed to make a little progress here David. I've unpinned the Handbook, as I think you were right about that, and since we've got a place for it at the top of the forum list, it seems pointless to duplicate it. I've replaced it with some pictures of this year's Scalextric releases.

Hopefully, when we've got the technical glitch sorted we can go on to make the Info page more interesting and vibrant, and perhaps if we manage that then we can discuss making it the home page. I can't do that on my own though, we'd need to get a few more people contributing, we'd need to get a general consensus that it was a good idea, and we'd need to talk to the owner's tech team about the least risky way to do it.

I've also managed to make the gallery slider visible to guests. A small thing, but something.
Thanks. Even small things are better than nothing.

Does the traditional (at least on other web sites) way of including "+" and excluding "-" terms work in the search field instead of having to go to the Advanced Search field?

I use the "+" and "-" terms (e.g. "Scalextric +track -cars" on eBay) to limit my searches all the time.

Just curious.

Cheers!

Instead of having 'go to first unread post' on one side of the page and 'go to last post' on the other side under the name of the last poster, would it be better to incorporate these two functions so that posts aren't missed if following a thread?

When posting to a thread, is it possible to always have the Full Editor option as default as in the previous incarnation?

I don't think either of those are possible.

I use a PC running WIndows 10 and can only select one picture at a time. Ctrl click doesn't work for me with the latest versions of Firefox, Chrome or Internet Explorer
Being able to click on several files for attaching to a post also get's my vote .........

I couldn't get it to work with Windows 10 and Firefox either so dug a bit deeper:

The advanced uploader requires Adobe Flash to work, most computers have this but it pays to check you have it installed first. Unfortunately Firefox has a thing about Flash and tends to disable it.

In Firefox click on the tools button at top of browser, then add ons. You will probably find that the default option for Flash is either 'never activate' or 'ask to activate'. Change this to 'always activate' and the advanced uploader should work and you will be able to control/click for mutiple uploads. Worked for me.

I don't use Chrome or IE so can't help with those but it is probably a similar fix.
