Can't work this one out, can the experts explain please

I read in the tuning topics about front tyres being ground off to a narrow contact area, or "O" ring front tyres, or being varnished to remove grip.
All this makes sense to me, as front tyre grip would be a detriment, especially on solid axles - the only purpose of the front wheels being to reduce body roll (?).
So, why are cars supplied with grippy rubber front tyres

Why do the manufacurers not make them from a hard non grip material

Cheers, Isetta

That`s a good question. In my opinion manufacturers produce models to appeal to those who see the car as a model first. Racers are seldom catered for and it is easy enough to modify tyres. At ours we don`t allow nail varnish etc but fitting Pink Kar `skinnies` is ok or grinding the front tyres down too

Slot.It produce Zero grip tyres which, though still rubber, make a big difference to most cars.

Fly also produce low grip, low profile front tyres for their Racing cars.

Gom and Pink Kar also produce low profile tyres for front wheels.

You would have thought that the manufacturers would have paid more attention to this. Unfortunatly, hard material makes a horrible scraping sound on the track (try running a car with no tyres on the front wheels), so this could be one reason.

Anyway, if you looking for some, Slot. It's offering are the best around, as they remain zero grip even when turned down to the desired profile.

Easy answer, manufacturers arn't slot racers, they don't know, don't care. They are just building Toy Cars with motors in them.
