Every now and then the subject of front wheel drive slot cars rears its head ,Basicaly the answer to the usual question is they dont work ,well thats not entirely true,The real answer is they dont work as well as rear wheel drive slot cars ,with a bit of inspiration they can be made to work to a degree.Inte emailed me to tell me that he and junior johnson were going to build fwd cars for wrexhams meet at the end of this month ,so with a little thought and a bit of aplication this is what I came up with its a front wheel drive iso fulcrum side winder . The theory is the front wheels are free to move up and down and keep contact with the track and the guide forms a tripod arangement with the rear wheels so you will always have guide contact and front wheel contact and there is no chance of the front wheels lifting the guide out of the slot ,there is also a traction mag to keep the back end in place but I will probably disguard this once Ive trued and glued some proper tyres. The rear wheels are independantly rotating, this proved faster round the bends.Early tests seem to be promising and the car is aready on the pace of an averidge nc 1 powered rally car round my test track .Once sorted I will up the power a bit but for the moment the nc1 will do.
