I'm new to 1/24 and these kits ended up in my lap. Has anyone used one of these static kits to make a scratch built slot car?

Thank you very kindly in advance,
Ken

hi Ken
i have built other Fujimi 1/24 to convert to slot cars.
but not one of these.
But the problems are essentially the same.
Fujimi kits fit together very well
the decals are top quality
used Scaleauto and Plafit chassis
Ive always found that getting the chassis to fit nicely on the body is the hardest part
once youve read the instructions carefully and decided
which chassis to use.
Youll be able to work out which bits of the kit you can and cannot use.
The gt40 is very low youll definitely need to assemble the interior first if
you want to use the kit cockpit part,
Get the dremel out to cut it to the right height
so it doesnt interfere with the chassis.
The other solution for interior is to use a lexan interior,
The motor section will need chopping about too.
As will the front underpan section for the guide.
The advantage of the plafit 1700 chassis is its quite low so a lot of the kit interior can be used.
The wheels from the kit can be used too by getting slot wheels with the right inner diameter.
any questions just sent me a pm..
cheers
Peter

Hi Ken

I've used the Fujimi Ken Miles Ford MkII as a body for a '60s Cox chassis. Here's the link. I agree with Peter's comments.

Thank you very kindly Peter and Andy.

Most of the chassis I have built are made from 1/16" aluminum, and 2mm above the track. I should have room for a full interior.

Things are looking hopeful. These kits look good enough to drool over.

Ken
For what you get, they are a huge bargain. I'm working on another right now, because I was so happy with the last one.

I buy a lot of kits for eventual conversion to slot racing; Fujimi are among the best. As are other Japanese manufacturers' kits, certainly better than e.g. reissued USA ones now contracted out to China.

Go for it, I have a couple I'm starting myself.
Agree with about the hardest part is the interior
But if you are building up your own chassis it's a bit easier to get it all to fit!
Sounds like you are building something like BRM-TTS type chassis they will give plenty of room! Post some pics of your chassis I have been looking at doing much the same.
Cheers,
John.

I would like to humbly thank everyone for chiming in. I'll post pics of the build when I get it started. This has been a great inspiration.
I am going down this route too for this year's Bordeaux VEC. I might use a Dynamic chassis with FT26D or the idea of a COX comes from this discussion. I am doing the Le Mans winner of 1968 in Gulf colours with corrected numbers. There is a mistake on the instruction sheet, most un-Japanese, who will find it?

Nice looking car. How much does it weigh?
She weighs in at 192 grams which is not too bad and the 270S has plenty of grunt to handle the weight.

Wow really nice work 👍
It's quite possible that I may have bought a few more kits when I bought the 2-Fujimi's.

The Chaparral 2D is one sexy machine. The AC Cobra is no slouch either.

What are your chassis plans for the Modeler’s 2D?
Hi Bill,

I've had great success for several years with scratch built 1/32 aluminum chassis. I recently made my first 1/25th chassis for a 65 Chev Impala and it goes like it's on fire. As a machinist, I'm staying within my comfort zone.

Who makes the chapparal 2D? I have been looking for one but I have found nothing.
It’s listed as both Fujima and Modeler’s on the auction site.
Search there or Google ‘1/24 Chaparral 2D model’.
Here's the Chaparral 2D kit. The licencing must have been expensive.
