Hello all. I have a digital scalextric set. i have been running saloon type cars (16 dirrent types all chipped) on it for over a year now and have had no problems.
I bought a F1 style car and chip on the week end. Put the chip in the car and it went around the track 4 times then just stopped. Afetr about 30 seconds the car just moved forward an inch (25.4mm for you euro people) after another 20-30 seconds it does it again. the car keeps doing this. If you press the controller to go nothing happens. the car will continue to do this with both controllers unpluged as well.
All the sallon cars work fine. The shop i bought the car and chip from have changed both chip and car (one at a time) and the same happened with the new chip and new car??????. (changed one at a time to try and eliminate one or the other)
As i have said the saloon cars work fine anyone have any ideas.

That is especially strange considering the swap of both car and chip.
The behavior sounds like the chip is overheating, and then as it tries to cool it will get that jolt like other cars that you just put on the track, but then overheat again, or something.
If you take the car off the track and let it sit a while, will it do the 4 laps again, before acting that way?
If you put a 9v battery to the braids, what happens? It should make the motor and wheels go. If not, then the chip is bad. Strange to kill two chips with two different cars, though, unless there's a manufacturing error that's causing a short somewhere.

yes this is a strange one. the model shop i bought the cars from does not have a clue as well.

I have now tried the following.
I have removed the chip and put the car back as a analogue car. I have put an analogue power base on the track with analogue controllers. The car runs fine like this.
I then refitted the digital chip and the car ran for about 10 laps then same fault. All i can assume from all this is that the chip is at fault. But i have put two different chips in the cars??

I have rang hornby help line and they have never heard of this fault. AAAAARR Help

hi
from what you describe it is quite obvious that the chips were at fault, there was a thread started in the scaley digital section a few months ago about a lot of solder in F1 chips wich were proving troublesom for a time, maybe this shop has a rouge batch of chips.

If it,s not to inconvenient try a chip purchased from another supplier and if successful return your first purchase for a full refund.

I have several of the dpr F1 cars and they have been bullet proof so far, nosecones are a different story though....
