Hi chaps,

The house is nearing completion which means the garage will soon be emptied of furniture and the work of turning it into a race room/man cave can finally begin.

And so I was wondering if anyone would be up for some Friday night racing?

I am provisionally setting the date as Friday 19th October but if it turns out it is taking longer to get the venue ready this will move to Friday 16th November.

For those I haven't bored to tears with it already, the track is a four lane Tomy track with sensors and lightbridge for lap timing and counting and the power supply is the same as the WHO one. The driver stations all have adjustable braking.

There is also a seperate two lane track for car testing, some Matchbox and Micro Scalextric track and a large air hockey table.

And a fridge to keep the beer cold!

Register your interest here and also post any classes or cars that you'd like to race. Please bear in mind that as the track is smaller than a WHO track (3.9 seconds lap record in the gutter lane with a standard Marchon) it is more fun driving the slower cars and ones with less magnet. Turbos, Tycos, X-Tractions, T-Jets (if you are brave!), LifeLike Ms and Aurora G Plus cars are all good options.

Cheers

Hey Deane,

It will be great to see you at the garage! And don't worry if you can't make the 16th as we'll have a race on the 16th of November as well. It's just whether we manage both or not! It will really start looking like a good venue in November too as I should have done the painting in there and made it into a nice space.

Andy and I have discussed the feasability of a "Host" class where me, Andy or whoever else is hosting supplies the four cars for the class. I have four brand new X-traction ultra Gs for the job. Just need to lever out the neo traction magnet. What do you think of the idea?

The plan would be to run two classes of an evening where the first would be host class and second would be bring your own car to whatever class is agreed on.

I really like the idea of Magnatractions with Group C bodies. It is one I was toying with myself. The Aurora class would be fun but I wouldn't be prepared to supply the cars as they're quite fragile and I'd hate to break them! So everyone would need to have their own car.

Cheers

Do you mean modern bodies? Something like the Too Fast Too Furious Skylines? Yeah that's cool with me. I'm not too worried about what body styles we run with. I would like it to be things we wouldn't normally race to make it a bit interesting and different to regular meetings. For example a host class of Dodge Charger Daytonas or insisting on everyone using chunky Tomy Ford Thunderbird Nascars.

Today I've ordered some new silicone tyres for the X-Tractions and Turbos.

Julian, nah I'm happy slapping any chassis/body combo together to suit the track these days!

QUOTE (montoya1 @ 20 Sep 2012, 18:24) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>What is happening with the cracker alternative oval meet anyway?

Feck knows, I'm happy to knock up a track if 8 people are interested in doing it, but I'm equally happy to travel down to Gareth's and race in his garage, TBH whatever's the most fun and most inclusive (of people).

You would be most welcome in the garage mate. There is a b&b/pub called the Downs Inn 2 minutes drive or 10 minutes walk away which is convenient.

I will ask the missus if we're likely to be busy on the 27/28 and if not, I could host. Depends on her plans for The Roodle's first Christmas.

Lee, you'd be more than welcome. And as soon as I have my independent wheels, I can travel which will be nice!

Diesel, I picked the Fridays as it seemed most convenient for people but I can definitely arrange other race times to help fit you in.

Hi chaps,

Just a bit of an update.

The house should be more or less finished in terms of decoration by this weekend which means I can focus on the garage by next weekend. However that really doesn't give me much time to get the place looking ship shape and welcoming for a race meeting.

Therefore I am going to be aiming for the later date of 16th November. I would rather you all came over to a well sorted venue with pit space, entertainment and room to move rather than it being a cramped mess.

I've learnt from the last time I hosted!

I'll keep you all in the loop as to how things are progressing.

Hi all,

I am still pushing ahead with race night on Friday 16th. The track will be up but the other amenities such as the bar and air hockey table won't be in place as yet. I can't fully empty the garage of "loft stuff" until we get the loft insulated in a few weeks time. And in turn that is holding up the dismantling of the garage room and the other works I want to do.

But there is plenty of space for the pits, there are heaters and a very comfy sofa both courtesy of Andy and naturally a lot of laughs will be had. I can even rig up the hi-fi for some ambient tunes!

So far the entry list is:-

Gareth
Andy P
Deane
Darren
John F
Rob (friend of mine)
Dave L (came 2nd at Worthing on his first visit)

At the moment I am leaning towards a club class of Dodge Daytona Chargers on X-traction chassis or Turbo closed wheel. Either Nascar or BMWs.

I am open to suggestions of the owner/driver class for the night.

Cheers

Gareth
