I wasn't sure where to post this question.

What do people use for storing slot cars in general the ones which are not in use or on display?

Personally, due to space restrictions the majority of cars are stuck in cardboard boxes and needless to say, it looks naff. Are there any suitable alternatives which will keep cars safe from damp (in case of attic storage) etc?

Preferably the cheaper the better!

Okay admittedly not the most enthralling subject, however any ideas or recommendations would as always, be much appreciated.

For 1/32nd scale cars I just wrap them in a paper towel and toss them in a cardboard box. HO cars I wrap in tissue paper then stuff them in a Matchbox case. What I really ought to do is dump the things I'm not using but I'm a lousy salesman so they just get put in storage.

get some bannana boxes from your local sainsburys/tesco they have a plastic liner and also a lid and you can get upto 40 cars in there depending on the car box sizes that is what i use

they are perfect!

Here in the States I use some Plastic divider boxes from the local electronics/ Computer stores. The ones I use are approximately 14in long X 3in deep X 10in wide. The boxes have movable dividers & I can fit 8, 1/32 cars in one. Buy several & they stack fairly well. They are kinda of transperent so you can see whats in them without opening. This makes it possible to "Group" them in different ways. If you cannot find them at the electronics shop try a fishing/ tackle shop. There is another box that has the same dimensions but is not as deep; I can fit 12, 1/43 cars in that one & it stacks reasonably well with the others I use for 1/32

Get your self down to B&Q and buy their cheapest range of kitchen wall cabinets about £25.00 each.

Take a saw to the doors, leave your self 1" frame all round, buy some clear perspex or glass and then you have a display cabinet. Glass shelves are best as these don't effect the tyres (which painted timber does!).

Sounds like a weird kinda twilight world to me.

They're either in the cabinet or, in which case they are patiently waiting their turn to be, in the pit boxes.

Currently I haven't got a home track nor a permanent area to display cars. The only cars in use at any one time are the cars which are club raced each week and these are kept in my slot car toolbox, oh and my restoration cars to keep me occupied between weekly racing.

All the others are kept in big cardboard boxes waiting for the day when I get a place to build my permanent circuit.

Thanks for the tips all, some good cheap alternatives to check out.

All the best,

Jamie
