Hi all, just bought a hillman imp casting , its the wide arched version. Could you advise what size wheels would be suitable please. I must commend Mr turner on a fantastic model with so little flash. Has anyone got a link to hillman imp data which would help in my research to produce a specific model, I have found very little on wide low hillman imp. Thanks. Gary

Hi - have alook at George's site as I know he now supplies inserts for al his cars, and he should have tyre and wheel sizes on there - failing that - contact him directly as I Know he has sized them for all his cars...

Hillman Imps - just love them and so successful in many different racing and rally versions and sounded great with that Coventry Climax designed engine.

Tuners like Fraser (already mentioned), Bevan, Hartwell and Emery spring to mind.

The 'wide arch' versions came later in the 1970s and were very successful in British Club racing - paricularly George Bevan built examples, some of which can be found here.

Then there was the (in)famous Jonathan Buncombe 'chimp' (really a rebodied Chevron B19) which rather provoked Vauxhall because it was capable of beating Gerry Marshall in Baby Bertha - the story is here.

When I asked George about wheels for my Fraser Imp kit he recommended Penelope Pitlane ppcb wheels and ppmt tyres. These may not look right on the wide arch model though.

Have you looked at the Penelope Pitlane front wheels for the Lotus 72 and use Ortman #36 tyres?

I used the minilite type wheels from the scalextric /hornby camaro kit fitted with trued up scaley tyres ,when I did my Bevan imp using a GTM body
Theres a thread on scratch built somewhere showing mine and other imps if you scroll back a few pages

Thanks to everyone for their help here. Looked at the threads and the varying opinion of the Imp...we will see when its built up. Loved the orange clubman racer in Stans links. Using a nsr shark motor with slot it running gear...should be an interesting few laps to start with. Will post the finished result. Thanks Gary
