after all the years of suffering being called a miserable old bar-steward by mrs zz , I am finally rejoicing that she has come round to my way of thinking. the source of this wonderment?... a newly found joint loathing of the foul phenomenon of otherwise seemingly intelligent individuals starting a sentence with the word "so"!!!! if you have been asked , "how do you propose to re-attach that button"? , or , "what method would you use to distribute seed in your garden" , fair enough but otherwise , nooooooooooo! other current hot favourites are "yoofs" with their kecks hanging out the top of their trousers and newly qualified drivers with a green p plate (clearly designating pillock) who refuse to commit to crossing a roundabout without having received a written invitation at least a fortnight in advance! what gets your hackles up?

surprised the quack didn't start selling tickets....sounds like a dodgy dutch movie!!!!

its too late to worry , the world has gone mad , the lunatics have taken over the asylum and their lawyers are claiming their compo as we speak.
And have you read that the NHS is now telling its staff not to refer to pregnant women as "expectant mothers", because it is offensive to trans-gender people?
FFS when was the last time anyone saw a pregnant man or pregnant woman pretending to be a fat man. All the so called offence nonsense has to stop. It will be the death of us all.
I know I'm an old fashioned sod but I firmly believe in the 3b ethos...blokes , birds and beer...then if that fails bull$h1t baffles brains! we are all doomed by the pc brigade.
I have just heard THE best one yet. a mate of mine popped in this morning to price up some new carpets and I am sure he wasn't pulling my chain when he said " unfortunately we wont be able to dispose of the old ones"....apparently they would now have to be registered to dispose of the carpets (and the nearest site is about 40 miles away) and even if they could would need two vans....one to deliver the new carpet and another to remove the old....TO REMOVE THE POSSIBILITY OF CROSS CONTAMINATION! for chri$$ake its carpet not fillet steak!!!!!!!!!!! I really feel that I am the only sane one on this planet sometimes..and that's saying something.

Sorry if this disappoints you, but there are at least 2 of us.

.......And I'd like to think your mate is pulling your chain, but the way the world is these days I do have a certain amount of doubt. I'm off to Google "carpet disposal".

Yep! CarpetRight charge an extra £2.99/m2 for "uplift & disposal".

and in the same breath the "authorities" are always p...ing and moaning about fly tipping. as it is these days you need a degree in recycling theory to go to the dump (as a private individual) . bring back the good old days where the dump was a dump!!

I've got 2 rants today.......

Firstly daytime running lights on 1:1 cars. Am I the only person who finds that when you're waiting to pull out of a junction you can't see that a car coming towards you is indicating to turn in until the last second because the DRLs are so bright that they mask the indicators??

The second rant is in two parts and it concerns buying tickets for gigs.

1) One of my colleagues wanted tickets for Ed Sheeran at our local Arena. On the Arena's website they sold out within 5 minutes. He checked the ticket agency websites and they had plenty available. .......At between 100-150% above face value. OK, so I get that the venue don't give a toss because they've got what they want. But this same venue regularly limits sales to the general public to 4, or sometimes even 2 person. Surely the likes of Ed Sheeran will sell out anyway.

2) Same venue. I've just been down there this morning to get 2 tickets for a gig Wor Lass wants as part of her birthday gift. I (stupidly) forgot to get enough cash, so wanted to pay on my debit card. They wanted to charge me £10 extra for using the debit card. Now, I've been in business and debit card payments are as good (some would say better) as cash. So, what is that all about??

I'm not having a very good day. Here's a third one.......

Spotty young lads on checkouts in DIY stores - specifically Halfords and B&Q, but there have been others.

"Did you find everything you want today, Mate?"

"That's £56.32, Mate" (note; no "please")

"£3.68 change, Mate"

"See you later, Mate"

OK. You're young enough to be my Grandson. Have some respect for your elders. I'm not your f****** mate!!!

I suppose it's no longer PC to address customers as either "Sir" or "Madam", as gender dictates. When I had my first job after leaving school, in a shop, if we weren't polite and courteous to customers we get a severe bollocking.

drl's are the work of satan...or his earthly minnions (the eu legislators as we call them!) and are a menace. if they are that important why only on the front????

don't do "gigs" anymore so can't comment on that but all these payment charges are (presumably) legalised theft in my book.
.......this same venue regularly limits sales to the general public to 4, or sometimes even 2 person.
(should have added)....... So how come they sell hundreds, if not thousands to agencies?? Oh! I get it...... They get a kick-back off the agencies, don't they?
with you on the mate thing...mate! mate , matey bud , buddy , fella....all of them get my hackles up. I once was that spotty 19 year old working in Halfords though (yes really) and I wouldn't have dreamed of using anything other than sir/madam. mind you its easy to get tongue tied....I once had a lady come in asking for separate clutch components for her nissan micra..."certainly madam" replied I , "you need a 3 in1 crutch klit". fortunately I think she was a little hard of hearing!!!!

Agreed. If my next car comes with them, they'll get disabled.

We don't do very many gigs, these days. But, yes, any card payment charges are definitely legalised theft. When we had our shop, the Bank charged us a minimal amount, something like 2% per transaction. That's why I pay cash for anything where I collect in person. In the instance I quoted above it worked-out at 18.333333%.

.......And on the "Mate" subject, the scenario I quoted was all in one visit! Every time he opened his mouth whatever he said was suffixed with the M word.

sticking with the retail theme....UPSELLING...!!! the worst culprit I have found is sports direct but I am ready now. when I get to the checkout , before the numpty on the otherside of the counter has time to draw breath , I crack on with "yes im fine , no I don't want a bag for life (shes outside) , a water bottle , a calendar or any other tat that you cant shift!....thank you"
^ But I'd bet you'd take the fries if offered.

A visitor went to my parent's house one day. Outside the stable-type side door was standing a birch broom.

The visitor asked my father where the broom came from, as he had been looking for one and couldn't find one.

My father replied. "Oh that is my wife's. She asked me for transport of here own, so I bought here one"

damn right I would....but only if you've mayo to go with them!

my mother in law would ride a bissom....but she would probably snap it in half!!!
Ice in fizzy drinks. The Coke is already chilled in the dispenser thank you. If you think I am paying for half a cup of frozen water so you can make more profit you are sadly mistaken.

On the other hand, I do feel sorry for fast food workers who are under severe pressure to upsell. I often ask for less than I want so they can sell me the extra fries which I was going to buy anyway.
doesn't that just confuse whichever member of staff is using the communal brain cell that day???
Not just grumpy but feeling very guilty this morning.

Out here in rural France, we do the whole Good Life bit! We have four hectares out the back and it provides all our vegetable needs and most of our fruit and meat.

We keep chickens, ducks and rabbits. As with so many things in this modern world, humans seem virtually disconnected from reality. If you want to eat meat, something has to die. If you want to eat meat, surely you must be prepared to kill an animal yourself. If not, you shouldn't eat it.

Anyway, the chickens and rabbits we process ourselves. Absolutely hate doing it but it's the price we pay. Our animals though, are treated with kindness, we are always gentle with them and give them particular fuss before we despatch them so they are calm. Don't give them names though! I always feel like doing the Last of the Mohicans bit and thanking them for letting us kill and eat them.

The ducks are more of a problem as they are tough birds and the feathers are hell to get off. We have friends who have a farm here and they suggested we should let the local abattoir do it for us. Just about every small town has its own out here.

So we took two ducks yesterday. Very gently put them into a cage and drove slowly so as not to scare them too much.

At the abattoir, some git grabbed the poor birds as if they were inanimate objects and shoved them into another cage without caring if wings were broken or other damage done.

I felt terrible leaving them to their fate. I suppose I can understand that, doing it as a job, it may be easier not to regard the animals as anything but meat on legs but what does it take to be a little gentle and have a tiny bit of sensitivity?

I won't be doing that again. I'd rather have difficulty than allow them to be brutalised again.
