I try to do as much of mine as I can online, but there are some things I need that I don't want to wait for. Anything I have to go for myself, I try to go first thing in the morning. ..........And I never browse or window shop (I do all of that online) - I'm straight in and out.
This is probably the wrong thread for this, but I ordered a monitor screen from Argos a couple of weeks ago. It was delivered within 2 hours of me ordering it.

Tonight we had a family meal, 13 of us, and five of the young lads were looking at their phones.

We asked them to stop looking at their phones and talk to the rest of of us.

Guess what happened?

Well, surprisingly they all put their phones away and talked to us.

Wrong thread for this I know, but I searched for "cheer up you grumpy sods", and "young people can be nice, but they won't always do what we want".

Is there any chance, no matter how small a chance, that we should show a little more love?

There are things about this time of year that I like. The world turning green and the weather turning a bit warmer - some of the time.

But oh...the things I hate. Mainly about food. This is the time that last year stored stuff has run out and this years supplies from the garden are not ready yet. We have to buy things from the supermarket. I know there are people who actually survive on this stuff but what ever happened to their taste buds? We have just had our first salad of the year. The leaves were bitter and soggy. The tomatoes broke the trades descriptions act. Tasteless and tough, obviously force ripened and certainly not suitable for eating raw. Hopefully, they will cook with enough basil or rosemary to make them taste of something even if not tomato.

Bananas that go rotten after a day or two, fruit that like the toms don't taste of anything, I could go on some more....but it's too boring. Whatever we buy when we go back to the UK is going to have a big enough garden to keep growing our own fruit and veg so we can enjoy the process of eating rather than just doing it through necessity.
Totally agreed.

Though we currently have an abundance of purple sprouting brocolli.

Perhaps they should train the police drivers better so that they don't crash in the first place.
I always thought the problem with police chases was the danger of the car being chased crashing into other cars, or pedestrians.

I think most police drivers are fairly well trained, but the people they're chasing aren't.

One man's gentle tease is another's snide comment. Such is life. Such is as I have found.

No malice, no snide-idity; valuable archive or old yellow pages the preservation is undeniably knackering the 'New content' function at times. Just sayin'.
Nonsense. The new content feed works absolutely fine. Scroll down, click on the next page. It's really not difficult.

More importantly, we should welcome and encourage people to post, not ctriticise them . Splendid has put in a great effort in restoring valuable content.

We live in the era of the permanently offended, Mr Ickx. Some people's knee-jerk reaction to anything is to assume the worst, to turn life grey like our wretched English skies. C'est la vie.

I'm off to play with the grandchildren's colouring pens. Especially the gaudy lurid ones.
I love our English skies, particularly at this time of year, with the sun low, catching the wonderful colours of the autumn leaves. It's beautiful.

No offence meant Jason, my tongue was firmly in my cheek. Just an illustration of something that's not my scene so I just scroll on by. Carry on posting.

Cheers

John
No offence taken at all John, my tongue was firmly in my cheek as well. And I completely agree with you. We all have differnt areas of interest, just scroll past what you're not interested in.

Snowflakes!

Yes, we'll be seeing them soon enough. Falling from the sky. And elsewhere.

Ah, yes, with those circuit posts I just about held my lid on. The magazine ones tipped me over the edge.

Anyhoo, if I've read correctly, the dark days are gone and the work completed. My fingers are crossed.
Aww, give us a break man. We've been working really hard to make this forum better. Over the last couple of years,weI've spent more time than I care to think about, trying to get this creaky old ship running smoothly, and also trying to promote this forum and our hobby in general. I actually think we've done a good job.

So obviously it feels like a bit of a kick in the nuts when people start to actively discourage other members from posting. That just doesn't feel right to me .

Unless we want SlotForum to become an ever decreasing irrelevance, then we really need to welcome new members, accept the rich tapestry of our hobby, and perhaps not get too grumpy about having to scroll past a few threads that you're not interested in.

Is that really too much to ask?

It really is a shame, to me, that many in this day and age have lost any tolerance for opinions that don't sit square with their own world view and then whine, or call names or plain go aggressive rather than just see it as valid free speech and just a contrary opinion. They're out there. Opinions. Many of them are not the same as yours, dear reader.

Once more, this is, or was last time I looked, the grumps thread. That word suggests a triviality, a lack of seriousness. Rants? Yeah, maybe. Genuine anger and death threats? Active discouragement of posting?? No. Lighten up. "Grumpy Old Gits"; the clue is in the title.

It's possibly too long ago for many to know but this site was, in part, set up as a counter to what was perceived as a heavy-handed administration of a popular US-based slot forum. One with illustrations but, alas, no bikinis. And as an early member here I did my time as a moderator and enjoyed it. I never expected any thanks, I took it as an honour to try and keep the place running smoothly. And fully acknowledged that my take on things, my reading of things, might differ from that of others. That actually makes life more interesting when you get that.

I think the moderators here are doing an okay-ish job (damning with faint...). Probably more strict than I'd play it but whatever.

But if you don't enjoy something, if it doesn't reward you, and starts draining you... Take a break, maybe?
I don't remember calling you names, or being aggressive. If you think I've done either then I sincerely apologise.

I've simply expressed my opinion. I disagree with you.

Being male, being an Aries, being an old sod, being a slot car builder/racer/enthusiast/geek I sometimes think there is a place for bit of blunt speech....

Instead of innuendo, insinuations and vague references say what you really think at the time about what it is that is upsetting/annoying you.

I know the policy of the forum is to play nicely but sometimes I feel like scorching some members for what they type.

Not feeling grumpy about much at the moment actually.
To be honest, I've been so lucky in my life that taking a bit of flak on the internet doesn't bother me too much.

By some miracle, I'm still in good health, I've got a great family, a nice home, and some land. Others aren't nearly so fortunate.

So, in some ways, I'd rather it was me taking the incoming than somebody else, because I know I can deal with it.

Good for you mate, I'm sure you've worked hard for what you've got.

But you're making me feel a bit grumpy now, because I haven't got a workshop.

I know that feeling Stuart.

When we had our new house built, I wanted to buy myself a chair. Having studied, and worked as a furniture deigner maker I had something special in mind, a particular designer whose work I particularly admired, and eventually I found one at a reasonable price.

It took 18 months before it was delivered. Yes 18 blooming months. I'd almost given up on it. It wasn't until about 3 months of waiting that I read all the awful reviews of the company, and kicked myself for being so stupid.
