GOGS...Grumpy Old Gits Society..

after all the years of suffering being called a miserable old bar-steward by mrs zz , I am finally rejoicing that she has come round to my way of thinking. the source of this wonderment?... a newly found joint loathing of the foul phenomenon of otherwise seemingly intelligent individuals starting a sentence with the word "so"!!!! if you have been asked , "how do you propose to re-attach that button"? , or , "what method would you use to distribute seed in your garden" , fair enough but otherwise , nooooooooooo! other current hot favourites are "yoofs" with their kecks hanging out the top of their trousers and newly qualified drivers with a green p plate (clearly designating pillock) who refuse to commit to crossing a roundabout without having received a written invitation at least a fortnight in advance! what gets your hackles up?

Last night my wife asked me if I want a bonk for new year? I just realised I've changed to gender neutral.

Usual new years hopeless/optimistic plans from a Government, fix the NHS, make the streets safe and tackle the channel crossings, who do they think they are kidding.

I just realised I've changed to gender neutral.
🏍 Sometimes I select a false neutral

I'm not too grumpy at the moment. :) I've just put all our Christmas decorations, and the (fake) tree back into storage.
However, I had the misfortune to visit one of our local indoor shopping centres this morning, and they're still playing Christmas songs on their infernal sound system.
Well, we’re still within the 12 Days of Christmas . . .
SWMBO always insisted that tree, cards, lights wreath etc remain in place until 12th night, as she's away Thursday morning until Sunday evening, muggins here wil have to perform the duties.

Working on that basis, then, decor shouldn't put in an appearance until Christmas day. That would suit me fine.
However, when the infernal stuff appears before the end of November (or, in the case of chez nous, Tuesday December 13th), it should be removed 12 days hence.
Think I'll leave the Christmas decs in situ. It'll save the bother of climbing into attic next Christmas. And the one after that.

Bet the cream eggs are out as well. I wouldn't mind quite so much if they would just wait until the next celebration has finished first. Be nice to get valentines day over and done with first.

Yesterday when I went to our local supermarket I forgot to get a loaf of bread but fortunately there was a slice left so I could have a piece of toast with my 'must be taken with food' meds this morning. Anyway, today I went back to get one and as I returned to my car I noticed one of those people you notice, and I don't know what it is that brings them to your attention, walking in the direction of a Landcruiser that was jacked up as high as occupying 2 car parks. And as I half-pie expected he was heading for that vehicle and in he gets and off he goes against the direction of the arrows painted on the ground that almost everyone else takes notice of. Entitled is a word that seems to be bandied about quite a bit these days and it crosses my mind that this bloke might be someone of this persuasion..
or he's just a .. what's that work that rhymes with sprat

Aren't hot cross buns an all-year-round thing now? I saw some only about a month ago.
My supermarket used to make them all year just with out the cross for eight months, although they did start to try other designs at Christmas.
I do enjoy a hot cross bun or two. :)

Maths until 18 eh, hmm, do they really need it.
Remember sitting in maths, O levels back in the day, grinding through the likes of simultaneous and quadratic equations, thinking why?.

Eighteen years of international manufacturing industry, twenty three years of teaching DT, part time now, never needed it once, pupils need functional maths to help in life, budgeting, mortgages etc, I think a small top set could do a full curriculum, but tbh the algorithm sorts out most mathematical calculations for financial services, engineering and construction etc.

Perhaps the extra maths could have helped Mick Lynch, 80% of footfall/income post Covid can't run 100% of services for very long.
